Was looking for sponge cakes and dropped into this little bakery, which had the biggest head for a sponge cake I have purchased compared to other chain bakeries in Chinatown area. We'll worth the price point and will come back when I am in the area to try other baked goods.

Ka Wah Bakery on Eldridge Street in Chinatown, NYC offers a delightful array of traditional Chinese pastries and treats. The walnut cookie was perfectly crisp and packed with nutty flavor, a true delight for the taste buds. The pork bun was savory and satisfying, with tender meat encased in fluffy, steamed dough. The melon cakes were a unique treat, with a delicate sweetness and a hint of refreshing melon flavor. Paired with a cup of coffee, the experience was elevated to pure indulgence. Overall, Ka Wah Bakery offers an authentic taste of Chinatown with its delicious offerings and friendly service.

This has always been my go-to for their light and fluffy sponge cake (紙包蛋糕). Every time I go to NYC, I'll always bring home at least 2 dozens. You will not regret buying a dozen. If you squeeze their sponge cake, it is so fluffy that it will fluff back up! It's so good! ???

Had Coconut Tart before and it was delicious. Came back to try more sweets and received this moldy Thousand Egg pastry!

I've been buying bread from here since I was a child. It's a very old establishment. This is as original as it gets. The family that runs this bakery is very funny and kind. They speak fluent English too. Be sure to buy their sponge cakes. It comes in 3 sizes: regular, mini and bite-sized. You can't find sponge cakes more airy anywhere else.

One of my favorite businesses in Chinatown. It is a no frills old school bakery. None of the signs are in English, which I like, because I usually point to different things and it's a surprise when I get home. I have yet to eat a dessert that I didn't like. Been coming here for years. Hope they survive the pandemic. A gem of place.

A few years ago I was on way back from a grocery run to Chinatown when I dipped into this hole in the wall bakery for a quick coffee and pastry, has since become my Chinatown bakery of choice. The palmiers aka elephant ears, wife cakes and almond cookies are some of the best I've had! Please be aware that Chinese culture is stoic which can come off as rudeness to those not accustomed or aware of it, so please do not expect to receive the "Starbucks smile and service" Thank you.
