We had such an amazing dinner at Kaikagetsu! Every detail of our experience from the sourcing of the ingredients, the preparation of the food, the dish ware selected for presentation, and the sake recommendations were incredibly thoughtful and well executed. As someone who used to work in fine dining, I was really impressed that our dinner did not just feel like a meal but an experience where the quality of the ingredients and sincerity of the hospitality really shined through. A huge hats off to the team! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening :) we will definitely be back

Came here with my fiancé to celebrate her birthday and the food and service were amazing! The wagyu sukiyaki was delicious, and the broth in particular was the perfect combo of sweet and savory. We had a wonderful birthday dessert prepared just for us and we can’t wait to come back!

Very thoughtfully-curated kaiseki menu. We booked the mini kaiseki and food was beyond our expectation. Six star to the service - the staff is super friendly and professional and they let you pick a sake cup and try two different sake before you order. Would love to go back and try the regular set!

Rarely write reviews, but was so surprised to the upside and such a fan of the restaurant that I wanted to here, especially since I'm not sure that Kaikagetsu is as popular as it should be.In a time where mid-quality food is increasingly overpriced and you can find $100 meals that should be half the cost in NYC everywhere, Kaikagetsu stood out with respect to both its food and its service - especially its service. The kind older Japanese server was the right combination of extremely friendly, attentive, and kind, without being overbearing. Having gone to many michelin and World's 50 Best spots, I would say the service here was a standout. The food is fairly priced and good, and the mini kaiseki is still a pretty reasonable meal.Booked this place randomly but will definitely be coming back.

I really enjoy the Okinawa tea and Hokkaido scallop offered by the restaurant. The ambiance is quiet, and the service is very attentive. However, there's definitely room for improvement. Since it is my first time having Kaiseki, I was expecting a more unique experience. Although other dishes are okay, I feel the Sukiyaki could have more vegetables to reduce the oiliness of the Wagyu and be cooked in front of the customer to enhance their experience. Lastly, the matcha ice cream lacks novelty for Kaiseki. I believe more delicately designed desserts could be offered, such as a crafted chestnut cake or peach shaved ice I have had in other restaurants before.

Kaikagetsu is a Tokyo-based restaurant. They opened an NYC location in LES a few years ago.
They serve Kaiseki, which means multi-course Japanese dinner. They also work with City of HIDA to source authentic Hida beef to be shipped to NYC.
We tried their winter menu. It consists of 8 courses. The most standout dishes are Hida beef Sukiyaki and Hida beef hotpot. Both were amazing. Hida beef is really a melt-in-the-mouth kind of beef. It’s perfectly cooked in Sukiyaki & Hotpot. We also love their sashimi. It’s so fresh! Their scallop sashimi was one of the best I have had.
Overall, this is one of the best Japanese dinners we had. Recommended!

My first time coming here and Kaikagetsu is the only place in NYC to serve Hida beef daily! Super soft and melts in the mouth. I would definitely recommend for a traditional Japanese treat!

Excellent staff. Delicious food, but the one thing that got to me was the beautiful service. If you're looking for a real Japanese experience, this is the place to be. ???
