food is fresh and delicious. Dishes are kids friendly, don't let the simple and bare appearance deter you from trying this local gem!

We wanted to find somewhere near 55th street, and Karahi Indian Cuisine looked ideal.
On arrival we sat down in a very pleasant and not too noisy restaurant with water at the ready and two colorful menus.

I asked if they could do a Madras and the chef said he could make one.
It was amazing. They read me perfectly, hot, but not too hot. And the flavour, it was delicious. Real care and original. Maybe a cliche, but certainly the most pleasant and enjoyable madras I've had. Maybe a New York flare? Maybe just authentic. But definitely an excellent meal. As for my colleague, he went for the mixed grill, and that, too was something special, lamb, shrimp, chicken, big chunks and beautifully presented. Luckily for me, my friend doesn't have as large appetite as I so I had some of his chicken and he was stuffed. I'm full too. The portions were really good. And we were asked if we wanted more rice, but even I don't think I could have had anymore. The staff were really friendly and genuinely interested in our enjoyment.

We both had Naans, I had a peshwari, and it was lovely. As we were going to a show, we didn't have time for dessert, but did stay for a little time. No pressure and just enjoyed a little rest. The food came in good time, maybe 10 minutes. They are really well set up.

Would fully recommend. Quality, tradition and passion would describe Karahi Indian Cuisine.

A hidden gem, |We were going for a pretty quick meal and needed somewhere near 55th Ave and Kahari looked ieal. The quality and service were beyond our expectations with an enthusiastic Restrateur who even made a dish not on the menu. The food was really excellent and the spie was just right for me, hot but not too hot for my Madras. Also real care put into flavour and must be one of the best Indian meals I have had. The service was pretty quick giving us a little more time to enjoy before heading to our show. The size of the dish was large with the offer of more rice but I was full by the end, as was my friend who had the mixed grill with its large chunks of meat and generous salad. I would recommend Kahari as a nice, slightly off the main track place for a relaxed and really enjoyable meal. The location is not too noisy and nicely decorated so ideal to have a good conversation.

Got some take out. The food was authentic and plentiful. I would definitely go back. The only thing they did wrong was not read directions. I ask for utensils and got non. Thank goodness I had a fork in the car to eat dinner.

The food is so good and it's very student friendly. Lunch is just 13.95 which is a lot great for the quantity. Service is soo great. Will visit always

The place could use a server that understands subtlety around customers.

Great small local business to come eat dinner at. The food is pretty good and they have a great deal on a dinner special (at the time of this posting). Everything came out pretty fast and servers were attentive. Happy to support this local business.

We were staying in midtown and walked over to 9th avenue where there are so many interesting and reasonably priced restaurants, and stopped in here because the menu offered things we like. While the restaurant is relatively small and had a fair number of diners, it had a relaxed, calming feel to it. The prices are fair, the portions generous, and the cooking superb. Each dish had its own character -- not the muddled cuisine of some restaurants. We started with the tandoori appetizer, which quite frankly could have served the two of us for dinner had we been eating lightly. Interestingly, while we would usually order noon or paratha, the owner anticipated us and advised us not to order bread because we had enough -- and he was right. The meat tandoori had a good variety, including traditional chicken chunks, a more lightly marinated chicken breast, and seekh kebab. We then had the keema curry with minced lamb and Goan salmon. Both were well seasoned, medium spicy. Notably the salmon we still juicy and not overcooked (which is sadly often the case when salmon is stewed). No room for dessert, but the favorites were there.

Best Indian food in Hell’s Kitchen. Do yourself a favor and walk 50 feet south of the fancy Indian place with better marketing that will charge you a fortune for a small dish that doesn’t come with rice. Owner is so kind. Lunch is literally $13.95 for a curry, rice, and basket of naan. I asked to pay extra for some lamb in my veggie curry, and he wouldn’t accept my money. Did I mention it is FANTASTIC food?? Please keep this place open

Ordered veg biryani got veg pulao instead, the water glass had some dirt in it. Too much complaining about how Indians see the price and get the food, never had this experience ever before. Not clean, not hygiene, waste of money and time.

Went with a reservation for a group of 9, they seated us comfortably and we were served food, naan, and drinks quickly! Everything delicious and top-notch. I recommend the butter chicken and garlic naan, classic items.
