It breaks my heart to write this because King’s Carriage had been a favorite for many years, when they offered romantic dinners in a lovely elegant setting. Those glory days are gone. Now the restaurant only offers a high tea that is a rip off. The cheapest per person is $49 and for that you don’t get very much. We were packed into a back room-keyword: packed-that is not even charming in decor anymore, a room full of cackling women, the noise level wasear splitting. The curtains, which absorbed sound, are also gone. Upstairs, which was empty, is still a charming room.

I really wanted to give this place a 5⭐️ review… but honestly the experience wasn’t great… I went a week before to get a reservation and the owner was there. He was very kind and I loved the place.
The day of our reservation, the owner was not there. We were received by the one and only waitress who was there that afternoon. There was something odd about him. He looked tense and had a terrible mood. Wasn’t polite at all.
The menu that we received were used and some parts illegible due to the marks of water/tea on it.
We ordered 4 afternoons tea service and we only received 3 teapots… I guess we had to share it… for a $60 price we shouldn’t be sharing a teapot. The tea was fine, but our server kept adding hot water to the teapots without our consent, and that of course changed the flavor of the tea.
The food was ok.
I did enjoy the scones very much! They were warm and delicious! But only a bit of jam and clotted cream was offer for 4 people to share! We had to ask for more and of course our server wasn’t happy about that and gave us some attitude.
The decoration is rustic and masculine… a little contrast with the tea set that is classic and beautiful.
I wish I had better things to say about this place. Honestly, a bad service experience can destroy your day. And the server here is just rude.
To the owners, I recommend a better selection of your staff; keep it classy and traditionally English.
Best of luck!

Terrible, do not have afternoon or high tea here.
From their not customer service oriented reservation system where you have to not only call to make a reservation, but you have to call back the day before to confirm your reservation or you lose your reservation. Welcome to 2024. Hire a staff or get an app. Ridiculous!
When you arrive it's very cute from the outside and very disorganized on the inside. There was already three parties waiting before us and no one greeted us. There was what appear to be one slow moving elderly gentleman setting up one of the dining rooms. Finally, he said that he would be with us as soon as he sets up the room. I did see another younger gentleman who thankfully appeared to be helping him.
Did he check in the people who were waiting the longest first? No!
He came to us first because we were closest to the host stand which pissed off the people who arrived ahead of us, rightly so.
The dining room was like sitting in a cramped refrigerator because it was so drafty.
There were only 4 tables of 14 people total in our dining area, but the service was incredibly slow for a place thats been open almost 30 years
Our waiter slowly served everyone ice water in the freezing cold room when what we really needed was tea.
There appeared to be no order to the service although the woman who complained the loudest got served first.
There was a delay in taking everyone's order for the miniscule main course. Honestly, they should have skipped that course because who eats the main course after they've gotten and eaten all their other food including the desserts? Plus, the main courses they served were completely forgettable. I'll get back to that.
It was a half hour before we received any tea or food, but we should have been grateful since another table waited over an hour.
Let's talk about the food.
First of all, they only served one kind of holiday tea because it was a special holiday version of afternoon tea. Not cool. People who drink afternoon tea want to be able to choose from a variety of teas. This is available normally but it was not available to us.
There was another person "serving", as it turned out, one of the owners, who pushed back when I asked for more tea bags for my tea. He relented and brought some after I insisted.
The scones for the worst ones I've ever been served. Like miserable hockey pucks. My boyfriend's mother said they should have been called stones instead of scones.
The little appetizers on the top tier of the tea tower were fine. A smoked salmon roll up, a deviled egg and a cheese squirted into a prefab tart shell.
The middle tier had two kinds of tea sandwiches. Only two.
The coronation chicken sandwich was very short on actual chicken salad but at least it was tasty.
Cucumber sandwich bread was stale. .
They shorted us on the sweets.
Meaning they were not four of each kind per person. We paid per person with the presumption that we would each get to try the variety of cakes. We had to cut them in half
They didn't make up for the shortage with amazing little cakes. The pecan square was ok but the others were not special at all.
The upside of being in a really cramped dining room is being about to see that another table got macaron. We got none.
There was no attempt to clear between courses.
Two of us had the baby bland mushroom bisque with the matchbox truffle gruyere grilled cheese sandwiches that were ice cold. The soup was warm so my boyfriend shoved shoved the sandwiches in the cup to try to heat them up. The fig tart which was not really a tart at all was it. It was one of the hockey puck scones

The owner refused to seat us because my girlfriend has her service dog with her and when told that the service dog just be admitted by law, told us that he didn't care what the law says.
The place has a charming atmosphere and a varied and delicious menu to spend a pleasant afternoon of English-style tea.

Tried to inquire about throwing a private party here. Emailed them approximately 15 times, spoke to them on the phone 3x, then left numerous voicemails. They spoke to me on the phone and emailed me back and said they'd get back to me and never did. Very disappointing and extremely frustrating. Not inclined to ever want to try it based on how poorly they treated me when I wanted to throw a nice (and expensive) private event.

“Sham me on you”. This place will ruin your day - Had the worst experience ever in a food place, including verbal abuse. The owner did not greet us, to begin with. Then one of the waiters provided nil service to us, not explaining anything on the menu, never checked on us, and never smiled. When we left the place explaining why we couldn’t tip, the owner accused us of not paying tips to any restaurant in NEW YORK. He asked, “are you looking for a friend?” ??? I can provide evidence that every restaurant I go, I tip on average 20% knowing how hard it is to live on tips. But it would be unfair to tip someone who is unfriendly and impatient. We offered to still tip five dollars (for a 60 dollar tea menu), and explained we don’t do that with other restaurants. (Why would we?!) The owner literally shouted “Shame on you” to us, and said “he doesn’t want your 5 dollars.”

I loved the upstairs seating area and the high tea itself, but the service was abysmal. The two male waiters working on 12/6/2024 were rude, sloppy, and unprofessional. Really tarnishes the experience to have such shockingly poor service with waiters who would clearly rather be anywhere else and take no pride in their work.

This was a truly perfect experience. From the moment we walked in, everything was fantastic. We were warmly greeted by the owner, and each part of the process was flawless. Both the food and the service exceeded all of our expectations. While this is not our first time here, this is our first time to experience the holiday version of the high tea. Each one of the items was very flavorful and fresh…nothing missed the mark. And by New York City standards, this was extremely affordable.
The venue itself is so cozy and intimate, there are so many little details that make you feel like you are in a fancy London establishment. Make sure to come hungry, because you will leave full!!

Took my parents here for a special occasion and we had the worst time. The service was awful, the food was underwhelming. I wouldn’t recommend if you were looking for a warm/inviting ambiance. The house itself is neat, everything else was notably bad.

The man who answered the phone had extremely poor manners—he was aggressive, demanding and didn't listen at all. I will never dine here and would never recommend it. It's really too bad, because I had plans to organize a couple big group get togethers there. What a shame! Fortunately, there are other places to have tea. it's NYC after all!

I was visiting my son and partner this weekend from Lexington, Kentucky. We had a lovely tea and had a wonderful service provided by Allen. The scones and the tea were most delicious. We look forward to visiting the tea room & Allen again on another upcoming visit.
