I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the underground speakeasy restaurant La Esquina. Reservation is required to access this one via a guarded door leading to the underground scene with cramped but very lively bar, restaurant and dj scene! Food is generally very good but nothing that particularly stands out as deserving five stars.
Came on a day where there was a heat wave going on and the AC was not working properly. When we asked the waiter about what’s going on with the AC they said it’s not working too good due to the heat outside? This definitely put a damper on my experience because I feel like it would’ve been perfect had the AC been working, drinks were great and so was the food. The music was also good, they played a lot of Spanish music.
Food was okay and took a long time to come out. Service was good. Atmosphere was good. They also charged a ridiculous $3/person birthday cake cutting fee, and did not notify us at all beforehand. If we had known, we would have just cut the cake at home.
