Afternoon tea at Lady Mendel's was terrific. The venue is charming, cozy and comfortable. The service was excellent. And the food -Wow! Unique that it starts with a soup or salad. I had the cold watermelon soup that had a kick. The finger sandwiches were more than usual in types and quantity. Our favorite was one you don't usually see- warm on a crostini with butternut squash, goat cheese, and balsamic vinegar. Then two kinds of scones as good as you find in England.. The desserts were light and delicious followed by more sweets. We had the “flight” of teas - different delicious tea with each course. What we couldn't eat, they boxed for us to take home. We also enjoyed the complementary cocktail. I will definitely be back.
It was very posh, intimate and cozy at the same time. My husband and I loved it. I went there for my birthday and we had the afternoon tea. Our server, Alberto, was very attentive and had great suggestions. The tea blends were excellent and I would come back here again.
Another place off my bucket list. The tea experience was amazing and I highly recommend Lady Mendl to any lover of high tea.
I had high expectations given the price tag of $100 per person ($89+ tax+tip)
But it was quite underwhelming experience in terms of overall presentation, quality and quantity of food.
1. We had a prior reservation for 4 people but we got the table quite late because they were full. Portion size should be mentioned in the menu.
2. We were given table in a small dimly lit room on the other side (looked like extra room).
3. We were started with seasonal soup which was basically Cilantro chutney in a very tiny glass (green chutney that we get with samosa)
4. You will get 5 finger sandwiches per person. Since 3 of us were non meat eaters, we requested replacement with vegetarian options but were denied. Honestly the sandwiches were quite boring and worst quality of all food.
5. They brought 4-5 types of teas. They were okay.
6. Then they served scones with jam and clotted cream. You get 2 per person. Scones were good and everyone enjoyed them.
7. You will get one chocolate covered strawberry, one macaron and one petit square dessert per person.
I wouldn’t pay more than $20-$30 for such food. There are so many better places in New York City for high tea with better experience for same or much less price tag.
Later we did take few pictures in the main sitting area which had much better ambience. Avoid back room.
Amazing gluten free option they made for me. Need 2 weeks notice in order to accommodate but it was with the wait!
Beautiful spot, felt like being a guest in a fancy home. Food was delicious, tea was perfectly brewed, and the service was lovely. I had a wonderful time.
A lovely 5 course afternoon tea. Favorites were the butternut squash and boursin cheese, goat cheese and fig sandwiches, the scones were delicious and the spicy watermelon soup was outrageous. the vanilla crepe cake was one of the best desserts we ever had.
We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea set. The tea was served at just the right times, and the service was very attentive. The room was beautifully decorated with calm background music, creating a peaceful atmosphere that made it easy to have conversations with my friend. We were able to relax and take our time—thank you for the lovely experience!
We always try to have afternoon tea when visiting Manhattan This was a creative find just blocks away from Union Square. Located in a brownstone lends itself to the unique decor and ambiance. The selection of teas was traditional yet eclectic. The five courses were scrumptious with some delicious surprises- cold spicy watermelon soup and a sweet potato crustini were the favorites at our table . The staff were attentive but not overly so. I highly recommend Lady Mendls.
Absolutely fabulous day trip. 🫖 🍮 🥪 service and food is wonderful! A “Must Do” in NYC 🫶🏻

The staff and service was wonderful and the food was delicious! Couldn't recommend this place more!
Such a fantastic location! Beautiful inside, wonderful tea and food, the staff were just so friendly. Greeted by the nicest lady, Grace, who was happy to tell us a little about the building as we waited for our table. Will definitely have to go back!
If I lived in NYC this would be my favorite Tea House to visit. What a wonderful way to introduce afternoon tea with friend at Lady Mendl's. Everything from the time we walked inside was wonderful. We were welcomed by a wonderful hostess and sorry I did not get her name. Grace shared the history of the hotel and tea house and very welcoming. All the teas were exquisite. The salad was to die for; I shared with my mom if I was at home I would have used my finger to get that last drop of the dressing. The sandwiches were very tasty. I did not think I would like the butternut squash on toast and wish I could have ordered some to eat on the train ride home. The 21 layered cake was outstanding.
I went with a friend for afternoon tea at 2:30 and was immediately charmed by the experience. We were seated at a beautifully set table in a stunning Gilded-age-style room, where soft music played in the background and everything felt calm and well-orchestrated. The tea flowed generously, and the food was both delicious and artfully presented. Altogether, a lovely experience—and a great value for the price.
Valeria was very attentive and provided great service. The food was delicious and the tea delightful
