I've been a fan of this place for 15 years. I've sent a lot of people there. Tonight, the server/bartender had to summon the owner to not charge me for an overly cooked, dry lasagna that I'd been dreaming about all week. I even spoke to the owner in Italian what he doesn't know is that that too cool for school bartender make me uncomfortable like I was te problem it's a same because this was once a neighborhood staple. Now I can't wait to forget it

Before coming to NYC, I explored many places online from reviews and photos. Le Zie seemed the most up my alley. Approachable, more relaxed food and environment. They had a duck ravioli on their “specials” menu that was truly the greatest thing I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. I can’t stress enough how good it was. I let my three friends try a bite, and they each were nearly brought to tears by it. All of their meals were phenomenal as well, from the veal, to the salmon, to a carbonara. We paired it with a great Malbec and had a perfect meal. I couldn’t possibly recommend any place in the whole of the city more than Le Zie.

Stopped by recently for a late lunch when we were back in Chelsea after an absence of many years. There were only a few other tables occupied in their sunny front dining room and the service was efficient. They offer a good value three-course set menu with several choices, although we did not find their wine prices a good value. The eggplant parm was better than the goat cheese in tomato sauce (which is literally just a globe of cheese in a plate of sauce!), but both the grilled branzino and rigatoni alla Bolognese, long house standards, were properly executed lunch-size portions. The Panna Cotta was still good, but the miniature tiramisu wasn't the best value. The big disappointment was that they served stale bread that had clearly been cut the night before and left sitting around. It comes with nice oil for dipping, but although we recognized the owner who came and went twice while we were there without stopping to look around, clearly unlike a couple of decades ago when we were regulars, the kitchen was on automatic. So, still worth a stop if you're in the area, but we won't make a special trip to return. For old time's sake we'll round up to 4*.

The restaurant was nearly empty when I arrived — just one guest seated, while three staff members stood around on their phones. The environment felt cold and inattentive.

The European host didn’t offer a greeting or show any warmth. When I asked if they had scallops, she simply said she didn’t know, without offering to check.

Given the price point of the menu, I expected at least a smile, a warm welcome, and basic familiarity with the offerings.

I ended up just ordering a salad. The lack of hospitality really set the tone for the visit.

Visiting from Texas and had dinner here with a friend. All staff I came in contact with (host, bus boy, cook, waitress) were attentive and helpful. Had the scallop dish and meatball appetizer. Good dinner!

Let’s start on a positive note. We had great service and loved the eggplant rollatini and the sardine special. Really different and delicious. The crab cakes were good, not great. Too much filling. Service was very attentive and well orchestrated. What caught us off guard is when we arrived for a 6:15 reservation and the place was hardly full. The hostess initially sat us way it the back, alone in a dark room without windows. We immediately ask to be seated in the front dining room and were accommodated with a sweet corner table. But the attitude!! Made us feel uncomfortable instead of appreciated and set us off a bit. Nothing a glass of wine couldn’t solve. This should never happen and a warning to the management.

To start off, this place has two different sections (much to my surprise). We sat on the 7th Avenue side. Anyhow, let's get into it:

1. Ambiance: the place is so quaint. It was so wonderful to walk into a place that wasn't too loud. It let me hear my wife. The music was 80s vibe that night. The color of the place was calming. The lighting at the right level. The seating definitely comfortable!

Service: from the moment we walked in we never felt ignored. We were always attended to. If it wasn't our waiter it was the maitre d! The never let our bread, water, or beverage go empty. They checked on us and how the food was.

Food: from bread to appetizer to entree to dessert we were impressed and left happy and full. I get angry when my food isn't worth the bill. We got our money's worth and more.
Go here.
Sit down.
Connect with the one you're with over food.
Leave happy.
You won't be sorry you came here.

We dined early and had a very pleasant experience. Of importance to me is the noise level. This is not a noisy restaurant tg. Good all around.

The hands of time favor those who cook good food slowly. Was here when it opened in late 90s, returned to find the quality of the homemade pasta has not changed.
