Had reservations for 10 people not enough food for everyone we had to look for another restaurant Very disappointed since it was for a very special family reunion they never callled to let me know in advance ….
I dont understand why none of these places cant hire atleast 1 person that speaks english
This restaurant has a cat that they forget and they leave it outside. It's inhumane what they do with it in this cold. Who can stand cold like this? Many times he spends crying all night and does not let people rest. Be aware if they are not going to take care of him so that they have an animal they also feel. Call this place to see if they become aware and come out angrier.
Food was excellent. Service could be better upon entry but got better as the evening went on.
I really hate that I have to put this review. I wanted to really like this place. But as soon as we walked in half the menu was not available, which was disappointing since me and 5 of my girlfriends were really looking forward to their food. Their food arrived, super late. Which was odd since there was barely anyone in the restaurant. One of my friends found a rubber band in her rice dish and that was the end of it for her. We all got our dishes and honestly it became hard to eat the food. Then the staff at the restaurant basically ignored us. They made no eye contact and left us alone, until we asked for the check. When the check arrived we were charged a full amount. But we felt they should remove the dish from the check our friend ordered and didn't eat. So they removed it but the wrong amount, then proceeded to charge the 20% gratuity. Honestly, why should we tip them if they don't provide optimal service? And after we left, we noticed that their food safety sticker was pending. That fu**ing sucked to see that. We wasted our money and time here.
We hadn't been here in a while. Looked forward. Start positive: White rice, red beans, and arroz con gandules, very good. However, on a Friday evening (7ish) , there was only 1 server for the entire section. It was not crowded. Empty tables in our section. We placed our orders right away with drinks and an appetizer. We waited more than 30 minutes for our drinks and appetizer. Appetizer never arrived, but our main courses (both the same) did. The fried pork chops were overly cooked - dried excessively. They were more like fried pork chunks. Difficult to eat. Knife had a difficult time cutting the meat. Margarita was subpar at best. Management needs to step up. I am a strong supporter of local restaurants, especially Puerto Rican/Latino establishments. This restaurant is an East Harlem icon. Overall: disappointed.
Beware, coming from Puerto Rico on vacation and looking for authentic Puerto Rican food, I found this restaurant through Google (Comida Criolla), restaurant was decorated with some PR culture and music but unfortunately, the food was no where near authentic Puerto Rican food at all. I can literally cook better than what they serve. The food lacked the Puertorrican seasoning and flavor. Pork Chops were over fried. Only Puerto Ricans would understand my critic.
La Fonda hits all the right notes. Cozy indoors with fantastic art by local, Puerto Rican and Spanish artists. (plus a covered outdoor backyard area great for parties). The menu is fabulous! Beloved Puerto Rican dishes with variations for diners' eating preferences (chicken, steak, pork, vegetarian) -- both full entrees, entree salads and tapas. The mofungo is fantastic! The service was wonderful. They also have special music and other entertainment that we may learn about on IG. I'll be back soon!
Service was awesome and the atmosphere felt like home!
After they changed the waiter, the food doesn't taste good and the price is more expensive.

Grate food
The best shrimp mofongo I've ever had, delicious! And excellent care!
Great goat
This place is as typically Boricua as you can get. Food is great, drinks are too, and the service & ambiance are just what I’d expect from any local bar in Old SJ, for comparison. If you don’t like that, go look elsewhere! I felt right at home. A small warning for islanders coming for a visit, however: some of the more traditional dishes have some choice substitutions made, to work around availability, I suspect. Not to worry: they’re still just as tasty.
Good service
