Nicely edited menu of classic French dishes. Very delicious

I'm in the neighborhood and haven't been there in a while. Don't bother! My fish ( halibut was tasty)but cold . I told the barkeep. He was very happy to replace it but instead they put it in a microwave! Not eatable and they still charged me . I heard it changed owners and chefs and my recommendation is they train their kitchen and front house better! I'll never return which is a shame since I love supporting my local places.

NEW CHEF ALERT!! We heard Chef Matt took over Libertine and made a trek to try the food — and it was INCREDIBLE! The Duck Deux Facons is a perfect combination of comfort and refined and could easily be split by two who don’t bring their hunger. But for anyone with an appetite I couldn’t more highly recommend the Gnocchi Parisienne, tartare de boeuf and pommes dauphine. We also got the seasonal tomato salad special which was to die for, for anyone reading this review shortly after written. For dessert we got the chocolate mousse and it didn’t disappoint.

The manager, Trent, was incredibly welcoming and friendly as was our waiter, Matt.

10/10 experience — we’ll be back soon!

Slept in brunch spot.

Food is unbelievable. Don’t be intimidated by the French names. Quiche is Gigantic. Croque monsiour? Get out of here. Delicious!

Calvados. Drink all the calvados. So chic and yum.

Throw parties here. Take dates here. It’s a perfect New York brasserie.

Great vibe and solid food. A bit pricey though. A few bucks less for each dish would make the place fantastic

Pricey, has their duck two ways and didn’t understand the hype. Location was probably the only thing I liked about this place. Many better choices in NYC.

Staff was not fully knowledgeable about dishes and didn’t return to answer Q’s, dessert was burnt, asked for wine list at dinner twice in hopes it would come with said desert, food way over salted. Won’t return. Two glasses of wine, one main, one salad, one bad desert $165+.

I understand that the West Village is expensive and the restaurant business is a game of slim margins. However, it's unfortunate that one feels this so acutely when dining.

Dining at Libertine is slightly awkward and tense because at every turn they find a way to charge you slightly too much and give you slightly too little. To remedy this feeling of ill-will, the restaurant needs to figure out some low-cost ways of appearing generous to its patrons.

A major issue is the size of the wine glasses, which are comically small. Anyone buying wine by the glass is expecting around 1/4 of a bottle. It seems these glasses were chosen so that the restaurant can squeeze 6 glasses of wine out of 1 bottle. Being stingy with wine is not a good way to establish goodwill with a guest. We ordered wine by the glass, and then when we saw the pours, we bit the bullet and bought a bottle. If someone orders a glass of a particular wine, and then says never mind I'll take a bottle of that same wine, it is standard practice to comp the glass. This was not done for us, which came across very cheap.

Equally bad was charging $38 for 3 pommes dauphine (fried dough balls smaller than a donut hole). That price point is nothing short of deranged. Fried potato balls are an easy way to be generous to the guest at a very low cost to the restaurant. Scrap the caviar garnish if you need to, and bring out a mountain of those suckers.

You get the end of your meal at Libertine feeling like you've been shaken down for your last penny and you're still a little hungry. Saying no to the dessert menu was easy, not because I was stuffed, but because I didn't want to feel swindled again.

What's so tragic about all this is that the food at Libertine is delicious, and the service, location, and vibe were good as well. If they could figure out how to deliver value for money and the feeling of being treated generously, this would be a great restaurant.

Prices are out of reality and they apply tips on top of post tax bill. Cheapest wines at 85-90.

Food is good. And portions are well served (while waiters will try to say they are small). But even for NYC prices are a bit too high and tipping on post tax is just wrong.

One of the best restaurants in New York, simply extraordinary food and great vibes. It’s a bit loud inside but totally okay if you know what you’re getting yourself into. Very special place.

My new favorite spot. Dinner was ridiculously good. Don’t even get me started on dessert. Service was fun and chill and the ambiance too comfortable to want to leave. Can’t wait to return.
