We came here on a Wednesday night after a broadway show for a drink(group of five) and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. Our waitress was rude — after bringing the check(that we didn’t ask for), she came back just five minutes later and told us we should pay now, even though we weren’t ready yet. When we asked for the restroom, we were told we needed a hotel key card to use it, which makes no sense for paying bar guests. The drinks were just okay, very small selection. Not the kind of service or atmosphere you’d expect from the W.

Nice ambiance. Chill spot. Nice spot to have some privacy & talk. Drinks are touristy price, as expected being in Times Square.

I really love this place! The music is always fresh and unique, and they usually have amazing DJs who know how to set the vibe just right. But I have to be honest — the bartender completely ruined the experience this time. He was incredibly cold, unwelcoming, and just seemed like he absolutely hated being there. No eye contact, no friendliness, not even basic courtesy. It honestly felt like I was bothering him by ordering a drink. It’s such a letdown because when I came here about four months ago, there was a fantastic bartender — super friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. That kind of energy makes a difference. This guy, though? He needs a break or a new job, seriously. I’ll probably try coming back on a different night and hope he’s not working.

As someone who has long appreciated the W brand for its modern elegance and elevated hospitality, I felt compelled to share my recent experience—one that was, frankly, beneath the standard I’ve come to expect.
I had chosen the Living Room as a destination to unwind ,one who had been craving a classic White Russian. The space has always struck me as a reliable spot for a late-night cocktail in a chic setting. The website clearly stated closing at 1AM; however, we were unceremoniously informed upon arrival that the bar had decided to close an hour early. No explanation. No apology. Simply, closed.
The bartender—rigid in demeanor and strangely performative in his disdain—seemed more interested in dispensing attitude than cocktails. When he asked for a room number and I replied that we weren’t hotel guests, his response was, “Not everyone can be perfect.” A bafflingly snide remark, particularly given we were prepared to pay full price for a few modest drinks. I fail to see the logic in antagonizing paying guests, regardless of whether they’re staying overnight.
The cocktails themselves—$55 for two basic, three-ingredient drinks—offered no clarity as to what was being served, I have my doubts as to whether anything top-shelf ever made it into the shaker. For that price, one might expect at least a semblance of top-shelf ingredients—or transparency regarding what was used. Instead, we received vague indifference and what I strongly suspect was well vodka masquerading as something premium.
Additionally, my guest was denied use of the restroom, having been told it was “for hotel guests only,” despite our actively patronizing the establishment. I also observed the same bartender engaging in an escalating confrontation with a visibly over-served woman at the bar—another red flag.
It pains me to say this, but since Marriott’s acquisition, the W has become a diluted version of what it once was—now operating under a set of standards that neither reflect luxury nor basic hospitality. If this is the new direction, it’s one I’ll happily abstain from going forward.

Very strange that a bar does not open on a Saturday. Seems like the bartender was missing inaction
