Banana pudding was good and like everyone else, there’s more wafers than bananas. Tried the red velvet cupcake and it wasn’t for me. They have whipped cream frosting and I prefer cream cheese frosting. The cupcake was a bit dense and dry, as if the batter was overworked.
Magnolia Bakery in Moynihan Hall at Penn Station is a must-visit. From the moment you step inside, you know you’ll end up buying more than one dessert. Their old-fashioned banana pudding and pound cake—what New Yorkers refer to as Bundt—are simply divine. The crust on the pound cake is remarkable, combining a hard sugary exterior with a soft, buttery, moist interior that could easily outshine any Southern pound cake. I really like Magnolia Bakery—the flavors are rich and satisfying. But the medium size can feel a bit too heavy, especially if you’ve already had lunch or dinner. If you just want to enjoy the taste without overdoing it, I recommend going for the small cup for a perfect little treat.
