It’s easy to miss Mama’s Cupboard because of its sub-street level location. But you’ll be pleasantly surprised by its jazz bar ambiance. Thumbs up for the fried rice bowl lunch special ($14 plus tax). The crispy tofu remained crispy because it was placed on top rather than cooked with the rice. The Thai iced tea was served after the food came out, a bit odd when drinks are usually served first. Please note that the suggested tips are based on the taxed total.

First time ordering! In love, great size, warm and healthy. Chicken bowl
This restaurant feels like a necessary part of my life now. The employees deliver exceptional service. The rates won't strain your wallet, the menu is simple, and food tastes good. Absolutely delicious. This place deserves more recognition.

Although the food is good this place and how they run things is pretty dishonest. I went in to order a BBQ Pork sandwhich. Outside there's a flyer posted on the wall that says a sandwhich was $8.50 + $0.50 for added pork. So I went in. I ordered said sandwhich and was charged $12 for sandwhich + $4 for added pork. This was really weird to me because that's a huge difference from the flyer. I paid $17+ with added tax. Then I went on doordash and saw the price was $12 dollars + $0.50. The total was around $13+. There was no deal on DoorDash. I showed the person who charged me the price listed on doordash and also mentioned the price on the flyer posted outside. They pulled in another coworker and told me to pay via DoorDash and they will void the initial payment on my credit card with them. I did. Then they told me that they need their manager in order to void the credit card transaction but said manager was not around. They gave me my sandwich and assured me that they will have her void it right away and I'll see it gone within a few days. Believing them I left.
2 weeks past I see the transaction posted on my credit. I called them, they gave me a round about and told me they would contact the manager. I gave them my number to call me back and let me know.
3 weeks, no call back. Transaction still on my credit card. At this point, I've resorted to calling my credit card to dispute and file a claim. Still pending.
This type of dishonesty is alarming. I would not go here ever again.

The kitchen creates memorable meals in a clean space. This place delivers on both food and staff quality. The menu prices are quite reasonable. Employees offered great care too. This restaurant consistently satisfies.

Not bad but nothing special. Tried the fried soft shell crab during Smorgasburg so maybe I came at a bad time but it was overpriced for such a small portion ($25). Had many Bahn-Mi around NY that tasted both fresher & better, the bread was pretty good though

I waited for 40 minutes for an order of banh mi during lunch with no check in or apologies for the delay while they were serving the rest of the Togo orders that came in after me. Very unprofessional service. Banh mi is dry and stale. Not coming back.
The experience was very cozy, relaxed, no-rush, and memorable. We took the risk of going down the stairs into the dark, non descript restaurant on a cold, breezy day. It was a pleasant surprise to find the ambience and service so pleasant. I'll surely try there evening Jazz sometime soon.

Very unassuming restaurant, you can basically walk by here without ever noticing this existed. Although the banh mi is not entirely Vietnamese style, it executes well on a different take. Stop by for the chicken banh mi and some thai coffee.

Tried their bahn mi with the ham and pâte meat option at their stall in the Union Square Holiday Market this year, and wow, it was SO GOOD. Fresh pickled veggies, creamy pâte, perfectly toasted baguette. I grew up eating Viet food, and their bahn mis were the best I’ve had. I live in a different borough but will definitely be trekking to their UES location now to try their other bahn mi flavors!!!

The fish tofu and kimchi Bahn mi sandwich was phenomenal! I got mine without cilantro per my preference. The bun was perfectly crispy, ingredients fresh, the kimchi-kraut and pickled carrots were the perfect crispy complement, and the fish tofu was delicious. Tried this at Union Sq Holiday Market.
