The staff at this diner are not welcoming at all and do not give the impression that they care for your custom. They come across as rude and treat you as more of an inconvenience than as paying customers. Whilst the food itself was not bad, the diner is filthy, which makes you question the hygiene preparations of your food. There was thick dust everywhere and the diner is very rundown inside. There is a door at the back to the restrooms which is covered is grease, cobwebs and dust and leads into an old kitchen area which is equally as filthy. I would not return to this diner.

Had to wait in line to get in due to the recent social media explosion about this place, but we were glad we did. The owner spent time visiting with us and it was fun to see the operation of a real soda fountain!

Notalgic is the word that defines the place, the older gentleman who was there, who is not the owner JohnPhillis, is a person who should be retired, has no patience with customers and tourists, is very rude when dealing with people, and This ends up influencing the rest of the team, who learn how not to treat people. I loved the hamburger I ate, the fries were perfect, only the Coca Cola is very still for those who are used to drinking bottled ones, I loved the place, I hope one day to go back and meet John in person who, from the videos I watched, seems to be a very interesting person.

This old time diner is a must visit on any visitor’s itinerary, the service and quality of food and drinks are up there with one on the best diners in NYC ! I’ve not had a coke float since I was a child which bought back so many good memories, now after visiting Lexington Candy Store I have a new one.

this is a “iconic”New York place to go. While the food was alright the place itself needs a good clean. Do not go to the toilet I was shocked to see a man whisking eggs up next to the toilet. They say they have not refurbished the place since the 40’s maybe it’s time to update.

I got a hair on my cheeseburger and when the waitress went to the counter to ask for a new plate the cook told her to remove the hair and take back the plate I heard everything I cancelled my order and I left, dirty place , rude staff. Expensive flat coke.

An iconic restaurant and we were not disappointed. My wife ordered an omelette a chocolate coke and I ordered a Lexington special club sandwich and a chocolate coke. We both then had a broadway sundae. Our food was simply delicious and the club sandwich one of the best I have ever eaten anywhere. Both of the young ladies that served us were very attentive and served us with speed and precision. Thank you Lexington Candy Shop

Don’t get roped in by food network going into how great it is. I’ve been burned by following what they recommend several times now (Tree comes to mind) and this is no different. If you get a hamburger just know it’s basically what you put in the microwave at home from the frozen food section. Don’t get roped into the “original coke” it’s Coke syrup and no fizz. Got a chocolate malt which they don’t want to add much ice cream to do it comes out as Chocolate water. Sent it back asking for a normal chocolate malt they looked at me like I’d asked them to split the atom. Im mad at myself. I know better then to follow anything food network suggests but I always hope it’ll be different this time…. It never is

Typical dinner in New York City. I went there with my family. It was a really good experience, you feel like eating in a typical dinner. Food is good but not the best I ate in New York.

They make the best milkshakes here and they're big enough to share. I was surprised at how good the pancakes were and the grilled cheese might be my new favorite.

Had heard about this restaurant through tiktok We came in and sat down we were greeted by a very nice girl who served us We ordered a coke and an ice cream coke which were not to our liking which is fine you can’t win them all We sat at the bar and the 3 staff behind the bar 2 men and a horrible mannered woman cooking the breakfast were not nice whatsoever We were just minding our business and they went out of the way to stare and clearly were speaking about us in their own language We just carried out our own business but they continued to stare and make us extremely uncomfortable. Was a bit unnecessary in my opinion, we are a young couple and were very pleasant so I don’t see why they set out to make it obvious they were saying things Very rude would not recommend to anyone. I would actually go as far now as telling people to avoid it completely on social media.

As we were queuing to go in, a local said “over priced food, under average service” - she wasn’t wrong. Pretty hectic inside. We went after the reviews on social media of making their own sodas and in search of that “traditional NYC”. Was pretty disappointed. Service was poor. Had to order and reorder several times to get the right order. Chips/fries were done in an air fryer - nothing “traditional” about those - was like having oven chips at home. Very chaotic and quick to turn your around for the next setting. Pretty rude staff. All in all - a great disappointment.

This restaurant is not only the dirtiest and grossest restaurant I've ever eaten in but it also gets the highest rating for rudeness, unfriendly. And the food is not good. I have lived in NYC for 30 years and never experienced anything like this place. Do yourself a favor and stay away!

The Lexington Candy Shop is well worth a stop during your next visit to NYC. Here they hand-make soda. Really! Order a coke and watch their kind and personable staff scoop ice into a glass, add a few pumps of cola syrup, fill it with soda water, and stir. It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen and tasted. For a real treat, end your meal with a soda float and watch the whole process repeat with ice cream instead of ice. We went with cherry coke floats, and they were out of this world!

We saw the segment on the Today Show about the Coke floats made by hand using syrup & seltzer water. We decided to go after a morning at the MET as it is only a few blocks away. We did have to wait outside for about 10 minutes because it was packed! However, we were quickly seated in a booth and placed our orders. We had hamburgers and sliders, fries, a coke float and cherry coke. Everything was delicious and came out quickly. For dessert we had egg creams and a fresh orange squeeze—which was HEAVENLY! We paid at the register and bought t-shirts on the way out. Next time we’re in NYC, we’ll definitely be back.
