NYC has so many great hand roll bars, but my search is officially over now that I’ve found Mari.ne! This is hands down my favorite handroll bar in NYC, or anywhere else for that matter. When you step in the door you’ll find a clean, minimalist aesthetic that is both welcoming and pristine. The handrolls were generously portioned with the freshest of seafood. I started with scallop, fatty tuna, salmon, and crab handrolls, one of each. Joe was the artisan on the other side of the counter preparing each tasty handroll. (What a great guy!!). He convinced me to try the house specialty, the Confit Spicy Tuna Roll, and thank goodness he did. As great as the first four rolls were, the spicy tuna was the best I’ve ever had.I would have expected the prices to be 2x higher than they are (we are in Times Square after all!), but each handroll ranges from $5.25 to $9.50 (fatty tuna), with a 4 Handroll Set for $22.Just how good is Mari.ne, and how great a value is it…? Well, there are 27,043 restaurants in NYC (according to Siri), and here I am back at Mari.ne for the second day in a row!! I canceled a reservation at a Michelin star restaurant to come back for more!!Whether you’re a local or a tourist, add this to your must-do list if and when you’re in Times Square!

Honestly can’t find any sushi place that is cheaper than this while tasting good. The Michelin star chef’s skills are within the food even with the cheap

Could experience home country's simple finger food in a luxurious way. Foods tasted good, but their service wasn't satisfactory... they left the door open during our whole visit that it was so cold and

TLDR: MariNe is a good option for handrolls. The price is fair, and the food is decent. I got the five handroll set, which I didn't think would be enough food but definitely filled me up. There was a good variety in fish (fatty tuna, yellowtail, salmon, fluke, tuna confit), and every piece came out quickly. The fish tasted fresh -- but my biggest issue here is that nothing really blew me away. Flavors were pretty standard across the board, and I walked out feeling a little underwhelmed, especially since this team opened one of my favorite NYC restaurants (Kochi, which is a must try!). I also thought the service could have been a bit better. Our server wasn't super attentive, and I felt fairly rushed when both ordering and paying. I'm totally fine with the no-frills treatment, but just felt like the vibes were somewhat off. Overall, I'd at least try out MariNe to experience the hype for yourself. That said, stick to the handroll sets unless there's something you really want from the regular menu -- it's by far the best bang for your buck.

Very interesting twist on handrolls as it's Korean style. Don't expect it to be the same as KazuNori as the flavors are very unique. The seasonings are more prominent than the fish here (as they use soy or gochujang as flavorings) so if you're looking for the fish to shine more, KazuNori would be your pick. This place is very good in terms of flavor pairings with fish so it is harder to taste the fish itself. I got the five handroll set with fatty tuna, salmon, yellowtail, fluke, and spicy tuna. I think their rolls are more stuffed than KazuNori The fatty tuna and yellowtail fish was not as seasoned so the fish flavors stood out more whereas the salmon, fluke, and spicy tuna did have tons of various flavors. The fatty tuna did include the pickled radish which I enjoyed the crunch. The fluke did have me taken aback as it was pretty spicy! The spicy tuna did not really taste like fish either. I also got the mini pho, and it was a lot sweeter than expected. In my opinion the pho can be skipped as the tiny bowl was $9.50 and it didn't come with much. Service was fast and prompt. The style is similar to KazuNori, where they serve you quickly and is not much of a sit-down and chat.

I went to Mari a few months back and loved it, so when I saw Mari.ne was open closer to my office, I knew I had to go for lunch! It’s the perfect quick spot for high quality hand rolls. The menu is designed to be easy to order with only having hand rolls, pho, dumpling, and a few specials that are posted at the restaurant. With tip and tax we got 11 hand rolls and an order of pho for just under $100. My favorite hand rolls were the fatty tuna and salmon. Not pictured, but they have four sauce options: house soy, mustard soy, house mandu, and a pho sauce. They were all so tasty!!

Very quick service and hand-rolls were good. Went during lunch on Sunday but felt it’s probably a weekday lunch spot.

Kazunori but make it Korean. It's all counter seating and I was able to get a Resy easily (max 4 people). Got the 5 handroll set and added on scallop handroll, mandu and mini pho. Their Korean twists I noticed was having small bits of pickled radish (?) in the handrolls so it has a tangy crunch to it, and instead of the pickled ginger palette cleanser they had a small bowl of other pickled veggies ie celery. The fluke came in a spicy sauce (think gochujang), and it felt like that took away from the flavor of the fish. Next time I would pass on the mini pho because it was too heavy on the allspice/cinnamon for me and would rather get another handroll. I liked the scallop handroll and my friend said the wagyu was her fave. I would come back for the handrolls!

Casual sushi spot that's almost like a cafe. Hand rolls are somewhat Korean inspired. It was nice to drink hot barley tea with sushi. I would have liked the flavors of the food to be more subtle (eg less sweet / saucy) but that's just a personal preference. Good spot for quick sushi if you're not terribly hungry. Runs to about 30 pp.

MariNe was all right. I don't get the impression there is much attention to detail here. I found the rice and fish inconsistently packed/placed in the seaweed. The seaweed itself was wrapped with different tightness across the four handrolls I ate. The rice was hot instead of warm. One of my friend's handrolls had fish hanging out of it and some spilled out onto the counter as the chef placed it on her serving plate. The place wasn't busy, so I'm a bit surprised the chef didn't take notice and offer to replace it, especially if that was a fifth of her meal right there. As for flavor, it's kind of as I'd expect from a place that serves pho and mandu, yet claims its specialty is handrolls -- there's a heavier hand on the sauces than I'd like, yet there's also small sauce pots for you to add more. The fish is okay. Didn't get sick but also didn't walk away impressed by the quality. We only had the handrolls, but the broth special we saw next to us smelled good. Overall, I don't think this was the worst experience. Service was accommodating and handrolls were paced well without making us feel rushed. It's a great option for a quick, light, and fairly inexpensive handroll fix. Just don't expect the food to shine as much as the aesthetics do here.

Worth the price, service is immaculate and fast. Few places inside the restaurant which makes the atmosphere intimate.

Went in there today trying to get takeout. The first guy gladly took my order and just when I was gonna pay, a trans person walked out looking very unpleasant and asked me to must scan the code to order takeout in a very sarcastic tone. IT WAS VERY RUDE AND MADE ME FEEL SUPER OFFENED. There was no one customer but me in the store, So this is the way you treat your customer??? Please go get a clear understanding about yourself as being the server and learn how to serve your customer right!

Personal Rating: [3/5], Yelp Rating: [4/5] Food is a 4, but docking 1 star for service. Solid handroll place with Korean influence. The rice is seasoned very well. However, the downside is that most handrolls ended up tasting very similar because of the rice. They use the toast handheld device for payment and the waitress literally would not let go of it when it came time for payment. There was a subtle but obvious tug of war going on in which I lost. If you don't feel like being pressured to tip 20+%, I'd suggest being prepared when it comes time to pay.

TLDR: What a steal! You can call me crazy but I am not the biggest fan of either Maru or Kochi so I was worried about my experience at MariNe. However, I liked this place so much that I'm thinking that maybe I just need to go again. I've been a few times now and I like MariNe just as much as I like the other handroll places in NYC. I always get a little disappointed when I get the last roll which is made with cooked/canned tuna instead of raw, but I think thats what makes it so cheap. I also loved the mandu. They're quite large and taste just like my parents. Super nostalgic and comforting. I honestly think you can skip on the pho.. I got this once because I was hungover but just go to a pho restaurant. Overall: love the price, love the taste, hate that final cooked tuna one but I get it.
