I went to Markette for dinner and drinks before an event at MSG. Markette brings an incredible option to this area. The atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant is something you’d see further downtown. I started off downstairs for a drink and the Mango Martini was unreal. They have a different drink menu from upstairs and I would definitely go back to try others. I can’t say enough good things about the food upstairs. Everything our table had from the crudo to rock shrimp linguini to the lamb was unreal. A side dish of the lamb but the pita bread was maybe the best I’ve ever had. 10/10 recommend and would go back.

It’s rare that I walk into a restaurant without any kind of expectation and have such an incredible time!! First of all, the food was delicious — the salt cod fritters and curried lentils are still on my mind. The portions are large enough that one appetizer, one in-between, and one main, were almost difficult to finish between two people. The cocktails were very well-made as well, and I personally enjoyed them more than the ones at the downstairs bar. I would even bring people here just to drink at the bar! Lastly, our amazing server (Luce?) was so helpful in her recommendations and just a pleasure to talk to. Overall I’d love to return and try other dishes or to have the same ones again. Definitely having the cod fritters again 🤤

Great time - excellent decor, service, food and drinks. Bar area downstairs from dining area is a nice space with a cool vibe to sit for before or after dinner drinks. Got to meet the Chef who was lovely. Would recommend.

We had a great meal and a great time! The food was incredible as was the service, and it is a beautiful, elegant space that is still super comfortable. We had the crudo and the salt cod fritters and the oxtail and the broccolini and the duck fat fries. Everything was incredible! The broccolini was an absolute favorite, which was not what we expected. I strongly suggest you share so you can try lots of stuff, and some of it is so rich that it is actually more enjoyable to have less rather than more. Delicious cocktails and very good wine suggestions.

This restaurant got on my radar thanks to my best chica from LA, who came to visit me in NYC and had this spot at the top of her list. It absolutely delivered!

We arrived about 30 minutes early and they were still able to seat us with no problem.

Dinner was easily one of the most flavorful, delicious meals I’ve had since moving to New York City a year ago. The website describes the menu as refined European with Caribbean flavor, which is the perfect explanation.

We shared the salt cod fritters, pan-seared dorade, and octopus. Everything was excellent.
Service was attentive throughout, and when we asked for the bill it was handled promptly. We didn't feel at all rushed, which is refreshing in NYC.

I tend to lean vegetarian, but I’d gladly return to try the peri peri chicken. It looked delicious.

Markette was the perfect dinner spot for our large group. The team helped us select the best wine pairings for our meal and we got to enjoy the Women's History Month menu curated by 2 top chefs. Everything was delicious and filling. I'll list out everything we tried below as you can't go wrong, but my all time fav was the Rosemary Farinata (maitakes, celery root, hazelnut, truffle). I recommend Markette for a perfect date night or a team dinner vibe where you might have a larger group. Their team was the kindest and most attentive -- will be back!

- Salt cod fritters (Amazing crisp to them)
-Hamachi crudo (2nd fav - the tamarind on top was 10/10)
-Rosemary Farinata
-Grilled lobster (2nd fav tie)
-peri peri chicken (came with duck fat fries and a delish cabbage slaw)
-Blood orange cheesecake
-Melba

This restaurant feels like an inauthentic take on Jamaican food from someone who is either out of touch with their roots or not proud enough of them to present the food honestly. Compromising on how Jamaican dishes are supposed to taste to appease customers is dishonest at best and creates something no one asked for at its worst.

The saltfish fritters tasted like potatoes—no saltfish and barely any salt. I’ve never experienced that with fritters. The hamachi was fresh, but lacked any real tamarind or sorrel flavor. The curry lentils were bland. The rock shrimp linguine, despite including scotch bonnet, was not spicy at all and mostly tasted like lemon—enjoyable for the first few bites, but boring after that. Even the scotch bonnet aioli tasted like plain mayonnaise. When we asked about the lack of spice and authenticity, we were told the kitchen intentionally dumbs down the flavors. I’ve been eating Jamaican food my entire life, and none of these flavors felt familiar.

For entrees, we had the lamb, peri peri chicken, and oxtail gratin. The lamb was mediocre, but the crispy rice served with it was phenomenal and genuinely unique. The peri peri chicken was fine, but again lacked flavor and authenticity, though the side salad was excellent. The peri peri sauce and buttermilk ranch were unusually thick—almost like flavored Greek yogurt. The standout was the oxtail gratin, which tasted more like a beef shepherd’s pie. It was delicious on its own terms, but if you’re expecting Jamaican or even Caribbean-style oxtail flavors, you won’t get them here.

It wasn’t all bad. Our waiter and waitress were phenomenal and did their best to make the experience a positive one.

Unfortunately, the hostess set the wrong tone from the start. We arrived early for our reservation expecting to wait, but were still not seated after our reservation time had passed, with no explanation or apology from her. When we raised it, she insisted we had not been waiting long because it had only been 15 minutes past our actual reservation time. We arrived 7:45 pm for an 8:15 pm reservation. If guests who arrive early have to wait until their exact reservation time to be considered for a table, then they should at least be seated at that time—you cannot have it both ways.

Even the table next to us shared the same critiques about both the food and the seating process. We all seemed to leave feeling similarly disappointed. We came in with high hopes, but both tables said they would not return.

Markette is a gem. The peri peri chicken is perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the blood orange wine is a standout—refreshing and unique. Great food, great drinks, and a laid‑back atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. Definitely worth a visit.

Went to Markette for the Women’s Dinner Experience and it was pretty disappointing for a fixed menu. Usually these menus showcase the best dishes, but most of the food felt bland. The hibachi crudo had a cool presentation but lacked punch, and the farinata and maitake mushrooms had almost no flavor. Even the peri-peri chicken didn’t really stand out. The Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc selection was great, and service was fast with a nice vibe in the room — but the place is pretty expensive, and overall not somewhere I’d rush back to. 🍽️🍷

Food is fine but pricey, room is crowded and loud. Service is ok. For the price I'll visit other restaurants in NYC.

Markette is definitely upscale. I dined solo and chose the Braised Oxtail Gratin, it was very well done, layered, flavorful with a bit of a kick. It felt authentic, elevated and enough for a whole meal for me! Drinks were also well done by the lovely bartender Rika, I had the Snake in the Grass! Decor is tasteful, bathrooms are clean and vibey with a designer candle burning. I loved all the details! Would for sure bring girlfriends or family back here.

Amazing experience! A friend was visiting from out of town and saw this restaurant on IG. Soooo happy we came here but mad I am just learning about this place! Everything was amazing from the service to drinks to food. I am not drinking nor eating dairy but despite that, had one of the best dishes I have had in a while! (They were very accommodating to my no-dairy diet)
The service was great! The minute I took a sip, my glass was being refilled.
The service might have been a little too good if you want some time to converse with friends 😂

For my main, I had the Pan-seared Dorade, curried lentils and crispy rice. The curried lentils were the best! That place would turn me vegan with a dish like that! The Dorade was simple yet nice... the sauce made the dish, esp with the hint of crunch from the plaintain on top. My friend had the lamb that was fatty but delicious! My other friend had the oxtail which she enjoyed and mentioned it had a nice kick of pepper. The saltfish fritters was good, the exterior was a little overdone in my taste but I also couldn't enjoy the aioli sauce which probably would have helped.
The dessert menu had nice options but I was too full from dinner!

They had a hardy drink menu but I couldn't choose from their 5 mocktails, they all looked amazing. I went with the Freebird which is a virgin version of their Jungle bird... it was different, I enjoyed it.

The ambiance was great, dim lighting, with instrumental music that had a modern Caribbean flair. My ears are clogged so it was a little hard to hear my soft spoken friend but I think it was perfect for those that want some nice ambiance for a date night or going out with some friends. We were past our time so the Manager offered us to go to their lounge, I didn't know they had one! I did not check it out but I will definitely be back!
