Crazy good bar. Great drinks, great atmosphere (sit at the bar if you can because all of the bartenders are very nice).
Shout out to Ethan...so knowledgable about his craft and other bars in the area. Its always great to meet someone who enjoys what he does for a living because it shows! He's got to be one of the reasons this bar has done so well over the short time it's existed!

Are you going to be shocked when I tell you that this 50 best bar has exceptional service and killer martinis? The bartenders are experts in their field and warm/welcoming. Ethan and the team keep you engaged and wanting you to try just one more drink (it’s a trap… but a good one). I liked my first visit so much I went back the very next day to try it again.

Martiny nails the balance between timeless and inventive. Their classic cocktails are executed flawlessly that remind you why these drinks became classics in the first place. The curated cocktail list adds a fresh twist, with creative flavors that still feel elegant and restrained.

The space is intimate and cozy, making it perfect for a pre-dinner drink or a slow, sophisticated nightcap. A gem for cocktail lovers who appreciate both tradition and thoughtful experimentation.

It’s definitely a place where you came for their drinks but fall for their food. The bar offers a refined nod to modern Japanese bar culture, offering bold, umami-rich bites that pair perfectly with the cocktails.

A hidden Gramercy gem where Japanese precision meets New York charm. Cocktails are elegant and inventive. Cozy, intimate, award‑winning— Martiny’s is a must‑visit. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Stopped in on a Sunday night without resys and had no problem grabbing seats.

The atmosphere captures the essence of a classic Japanese cocktail bar — refined, intimate, and elevated by a sharply dressed bartender and attentive service, all set to elegant background music. The second floor has a cozy, loft-like feel with plenty of seating and space to unwind.

The cocktails are outstanding, inspired by Japanese culinary traditions — think creative takes like melon cream soda or drinks evoking a tea ceremony. The food menu is just as impressive, featuring unique offerings like imported Japanese river crab that you won’t find elsewhere.

Easily one of the best bars in New York City, especially if you’re a fan of Japanese-style mixology.

Martiny’s serves fantastic drinks and thoughtful bites in a beautiful setting, but the service culture seriously dampens the experience.

We were seated as a walk-in (grateful after a 2-hour wait), but throughout the evening, the staff reminded us repeatedly that we should be grateful to have a table. We spent over $400 on drinks and light bites for three people in about an hour around 10 PM, when the bar was nearly empty.

At one point, the only other table politely struck up a conversation with us, and we were quickly told that it was against policy for guests to interact between tables—even though the space was empty. When we asked for the reasoning, the staff said, “It’s illogical, but these are our rules,” and reminded us again how lucky we were to be seated.

Martiny’s could be one of NYC’s best cocktail bars if it matched the warmth of its drinks with the warmth of its hospitality. Until then, come for the cocktails, but know you might leave feeling like a burden for simply being there.

You will absolutely want to make a reservation.

Be sure to let them know that you would like to be seated upstairs. It is very nice and cozy not very crowded and quiet.

Be prepared, because the drinks are somewhat expensive, but if you’re looking for a very special evening out in a cozy bar and a very big city, this is the place to go. We’ve been here twice and I’ve enjoyed it both times.

Drinks were on the pricier side but food and cocktails here are fun and indulgent. Great service and good vibes all around.

This is hands down one of the best bars I have visited.

The drinks - their complexity, variety and balance - are perfect, and the food is amazing as well. Do get the nuts, they were a great addition.

The ambience however is probably the best. It is cozy, elegant, warm and genuinely makes you want to stay there for hours. The service too is fantastic, the hosts know their menu inside out and are not afraid to recommend based on your taste, which I truly think made us try drinks we otherwise would have not chosen.

A hidden gem that is not too be missed.

This is the only bar I've sat at where I felt more sophisticated and regal getting a drink instead of feeling like a drunk.

Amazing vibes. Bartenders are great and it's easy to tell their masters of their craft.

Amazing food but all the drinks are sweet (even if you ask for recommendations of savory/dry cocktails).

We lucked out with a Saturday evening reservation at Martiny's and were promptly seated at the bar. The ambiance is a classy throwback to the 1930s, complete with smooth jazz vibes.

Cocktails were a highlight: the Three Little Words sipped down easily, while the Olive and Honey Vesper balanced savory and sweet perfectly. The B&B Savory was intense, with a caper and pearl onion adding a nice touch. Sunset Negroni was decent, but not the star of the show.

Small bites shone: scotch eggs and bar nuts were spot on. Wagyu tartare? Delicious. Servers were attentive, and the 1hr 45min seating time flew by. Martiny's feels like a winter wonderland, but it's worth visiting any time of year.

Hmmm… I fear martinys may be, dare I say it, overhyped..??

I got a seat at the bar as a walk in around 730 pm on a Saturday night (they get credit for this, I hear it’s super hard to get a walk in res. Maybe worked because I was solo). Once I was seated, the bartender said “hi how you doing to me” and then no one spoke to me for over 10 minutes. I was also told I only had an hour as a walk in, so was a bit surprised it took so long for me to get addressed.

There was little to no interaction between the bartenders and patrons. I get they’re busy and they’re making these complicated (possibly too complicated?) drinks, but the service just felt cold and distant. When I’m tasting such intricate and unusual drinks, I appreciate some back and forth describing the drinks, some recommendations and guidance. Maybe it’s too much to ask at an establishment like this.

The $28 dollar porcini risotto drink…I’ve had better $11 dollar cocktails that didn’t have truffle oil, fermented rice, black pepper crackle nonsense on it, The drink wasn’t terrible, it just didn’t make a lot of sense. And it certainly was not worth almost $30. You’re clearly paying for the ingredients, not the taste. But the payoff wasn’t there. This drink didn’t blow my mind and make me go WOW! It tasted pretty basic beyond the strange and even unpleasant aftertaste of the black pepper. I’m not sure what they were going for here, and maybe others would enjoy it more than I did. But after this drink, it did not make me want to spend another dime to risk a second one off the menu. I finished it and left. All and all, I probably would not return unless it was on someone else’s dime.

I also don’t know what the upstairs vibe was like, but the downstairs was nothing special.
