A community treasure ...
The food is delicious...
stepped in to use the bathroom (i know, you’re not supposed to but i was sick and desperate, it happens!) 2 servers chased me down, demanded I buy something, so I handed over my card and they charged me $6.53 for soda water. They were very angry. Hope someone got them some empathy for their Christmas present.
It would be great to know if you are closed for a private party.

So there are two locations which google maps doesn’t really showcase cause the photos and reviews of both places are jumbled up in this one address. This is a bar and it DOESN’T serve scones. I came specifically for those because of the reviews and was hoping to enjoy a beer with scones. Either the two addresses are mixed up and they never served scones at the bar or they stopped serving them at the bar. Either way I felt like I was gaslit by the bartender lmao and had quite an unpleasant interaction. Also paid 6,5$ for a glass of sparkling water which I think is absurd.
Mary O’s is the NYC line you never skip. Their soda bread scones hit like a tiny Irish punch—crisp on the outside, melting on the inside, and that butter? Soft, warm, and sliding on so smooth it should probably buy you dinner first.

Such a great scone. Not even a scone person and this was superb. Felt like I’m in a little English cottage eating this. Even two days later, it tasted so fresh, fluffy, and crispy on top, right out of the oven. Delicious butter and jam, too.
5 stars!!!!

Mary O has a wonderful establishment and an amazing and delicious scone story that goes down in history!
Mary O’s is the type of establishment that New York was made from. Hardworking owners, simple but good drinks, unassuming food that warms your belly and makes you want more. It’s a local place that even if you’re not local makes you feel a part of its community. It’s simply the best. Just go, sit, talk to the patron next to you and enjoy.

Some of the best service and nicest people at a New York Irish Pub! Mary and Patrick were some of the nicest people in town!
We got some pints and 2 dishes of the Irish Curry which neither of us have had before. The dishes were amazing and the best description I could give is that it tastes like something your grandma would cook you on a cold day (Delicious). The Soda Bread was also amazing and we were told they were complimentary! Would definitely visit the next time I'm around the area!

The place is fun and there a great open mic but our waitress , Middle Ages white woman w cat eye glasses, was so crabby. Hostile. Terrible attitude. We asked for a menu she rolled her eyes and said there wasn’t one but she could tell us what they had. Eventually she came back to tell us and we ordered. 40 min later still no food. Then she says they are out of shrimp for the Cesar. Can they substitute grilled chicken. I say yes. 30 min later she serves me a Cesar swimming in dressing and drowning in parm with fried chicken not grilled. It’s inedible and nasty but she’s no where to be found. My friends needed salt and catsup for their fries. Nope. I had to get my own ice water refill at the bar. Why was she so pissy? I’ve been a waitress and sometimes you’re in the weeds but the place was not that busy. And there’s just no excuse to treating people like naughty children. Uch. I only rarely get to go out and this crabby waitress really ruined everyone’s night. We tried to have a laugh about it but couldn’t get past how overtly hostile she was
There are good bars, there are great restaurants, and then—once in a long while—you find a place like Mary O’s Irish Restaurant & Bar, where the food is honest, the pint is perfect, and the soul of the community beats behind the bar.
Let’s get one thing straight: Mary O’s pours the best Guinness in the city. Full stop. It arrives like velvet in a glass—cold, creamy, and with that signature cascade that only happens when someone truly knows what they’re doing. There’s reverence in the pour, patience in the wait, and pure bliss in the first sip. It’s not just a drink here—it’s a ritual. And at Mary O’s, it’s sacred.
But Guinness is just the beginning.
Step into the cozy, glowing warmth of this East Village haven, and you’ll be greeted by a menu that defies repetition. Why? Because Mary shops fresh—every day. No freezer, no shortcuts. Just honest-to-God cooking with whatever inspired her that morning at the market. The menu is a living, breathing love letter to Irish comfort food with a market-fresh twist.
And there’s one dish that haunts my cravings daily: the Irish chicken curry. Creamy, fragrant, perfectly spiced—it’s a dish that grabs you by the soul. I’ve eaten curry across continents, and I can say—hand on heart—this is the best I’ve ever had. If Mary ever stops making it, I may start a hunger strike.
But what truly sets Mary O’s apart isn’t just the food or the pour—it’s Mary herself. Her commitment to the community is legendary. She doesn’t just open her doors—she opens her heart. Hosting fundraisers for puppies (yes, actual puppies), providing all the food and drinks herself, just to give back. Or opening up early so that the exhausted camp counselors from the local programs have a place to unwind. There’s a quiet, unwavering generosity that pulses through this place, and you feel it in every detail—from the smile behind the bar to the food on your plate.
Mary O’s isn’t just an Irish restaurant. It’s a place where stories are told, pints are honored, and strangers become family. If you haven’t been, go. If you have, you already know: there’s nowhere else quite like it.
Sláinte.

First time here, popped in because we heard about some Irish music going on. Enjoyed the staff and the drinks. I didn't eat anything, but some in our group had the scones (apparently they're famous for them). Will definitely be returning in the future to try the food and vibes outside of music.
