There really aren't too many sushi joints in the UWS and I was excited to try this place. Unfortunately Matsu was a huge miss and there really weren't any highlights from this meal. The sushi was probably worse quality than the sushi you would get at an all you can eat place. The portions are also tiny and we were all shocked by how small the sushi rolls were and how thin the fish were sliced. Again, even less fish than you would get from an AYCE sushi joint. The miso soup was lukewarm and too salty, and the fish did not taste very fresh. The service was okay and our food came out relatively quickly, but I would absolutely never come back here again.

Aggressively average sushi. The pieces were very small and almost mushy. The fish itself was not that flavorful.

I got their two rolls special for lunch. The eel avocado and shrimp tempura rolls were delicious. I'll be back

The sushi itself was good; fresh and fair prices. I ordered the Eel Avocado, Salmon Avocado, and Spicy Tuna rolls. The spicy tuna comes with some crispy flavoring on the inside. However... The inside looks like they are doing construction but there isn't a sign or apology stating so. It's very bleak and you can barely hear the music. So, you end up hearing every other sound instead (sinks, footsteps, everyone's conversation). Also, there were a couple of flies that wouldn't stop hovering around my table. Service was mediocre.

Cute little sushi place on the upper west side. The sushi here is fresh and delicious. The service was prompt and attentive. Can’t wait to go back the next time I’m in NYC.

My favorite local sushi! Everything on their menu is good. Fresh fish regardless the day you go!

Pros:Location is goodOutside dinning was nicePricing is goodFood quality good for the priceCons:- After ordering, it takes a long time to be served, don’t go there if you are in a rush or hungry- Service is ok, below average I would say, but I assume that it’s due the lack of enough people working, they need to hire more, the waitresses was looking as she was overwhelmed- the teriyaki sauce tastes like Chinese teriyaki and not Japanese, it’s not bad, just not Japanese

This was a great surprise. They have outdoor seating. The drinks are sooooo inexpensive. We got the sushi for 2 and it was plenty for 2 adults plus one child. It also comes with a soup or salad for 2. We would definitely come back again! It's also really close to the natural history museum.

The fish was very fresh, and the prices are good. This is everything I want in a sushi restaurant. Highly recommend.

Very surprised at good overall rating. goza were small and fried like they were put in a deep fryer, not pan fried on one side, making them chewy not tender. The chicken noodle soup ($14!!) had a smoke flavor and chicken was dry. Uneatable. There was no receipt on the bag or my name or apartment. He just droppedbag on the lobby table and walked out. My doorman had no idea who it was for. So it sat there for 15 minutes until I Called to check. They were supposed to text me. Needless to say everything was cold. Not worth the cost. Won't go here again.
