Hole in the wall sushi spot. It’s a small and cozy spot in the LES. The size allows you to enjoy the food and chefs on a personal level. I also genuinely have not had fresher fish than here, every piece was mind blowing, the fact that it’s only $68 for 12 pieces! I’m so impressed and I truly can’t recommend it enough. Better than any Michelin I’ve ever had! Also if you love uni like I do, it’s a must.

What a let down!! I have been here a few times, told many friends about it but today’s experience was the worst dining experience I have ever had. My boyfriend and I had a 8:45 reservation, we sat at 8:50 and had paid by 9:15. We were the only people during that time. It was so uncomfortable, the waitress was staring at us the whole time. I didn’t even have time to shallow and the next course was ready.

Cozy no frills place that delivers. The only seating is a small 10-12 person sushi bar. We had an 8:30 seating and arrived slightly early. The two of us had our pick of seats and they opened our bottle of wine (no corkage fee) and got a chiller for us. Everyone was so accommodating and had such a desire to make our dinner perfect.
We did the expanded omakase with two appetizers, 10 nigiri and two hand rolls. We were full by the end! But we did add a second Wagyu nigiri a la carte to revisit.
The appetizers were creative and delicious, one served on a Pringle with a spicy tuna.
The nigiri were delicious, not too extravagant, but cased the flavors with simplicity. The fish was fresh and toro was delightfully buttery. I loved both the hand rolls at the end. I could make an entire meal out of them.
I would definitely return. It was absolutely worth the money.

My wife and I had a lovely visit recently. The food and service were excellent. After visiting Japan it is difficult to find establishments that mirror the high level of quality regularly available there. Matsunori does. We will definitely visit again.

The ingredients are very fresh, the taste is great, the service is also very good, the store staff are very enthusiastic, and the price/performance ratio is very good. I will patronize it frequently in the future.

Matsunori is my #1 ranked restaurant in New York, because it checks off all the boxes for me. High quality (fish, always), consistent, incredible service, and affordable price points.

Whenever I have friends visiting, Matsunori is the first stop on the restaurant list and is typically a fan favorite. Whether you are diving into a couple bottles of sake with friends (BYOB), or just sipping green tea enjoying the craft, the vibe is versatile and unmatched.

I’ve been coming here on a regular basis (nearly once a week) for a little over a year now. There have been 0 misses.

The food was absolutely delicious and delectable. The workers are very nice and friendly and the food was made at an adequate pace (the nigiri was out of this world). Would definitely come back anytime I’m craving omakase. Definitely a must try in the city!

Very good omakase - great selection of fresh fish, friendly staff and an overall great experience.

My only problem is that too many dishes contained truffle, and it was too dominant and ruined the balance in some dishes.

It's still a great omakase at a very good price point.
