I’ve been to many Matto locations in Manhattan, but the one on 79th & Lex is excellent in so very many ways. So much so that I try to get there nearly every day.
I am always greeted effusively by the staff and in particular by Mohamed and Salma; both always remember my standard drink order and begin preparing them right after they see me walk in.
My hot Latte and Banana iced latte pictured here) are excellent beverages and reasonably priced!
The only thing missing: they used to have a delicious Coffee Cake, but it’s not been available for months. Please — bring it back !

I visit this Matto location weekly as it is the perfect location for proximity to All Souls and the park. Not only is the service super speedy and always amazingly consistent, the rewards are phenomenal, the $3 menu is the best value in town, and most of all, Sherin makes each visit so memorable and lovely. She is always a bright spot in my day. With lots of nice coffee options around between Blank Street and Joe and the Juice, and of course the dreaded Starbucks, I would choose Matto any day for the wonderful service. These days, that really makes a difference.

I had one of the worst customer experiences here. I was charged $20 for a single coffee, and when I raised the issue, the barista dismissed me repeatedly, made me wait over 15 minutes, and ignored me so completely it felt like I was talking to a wall. At one point, he even told me I was lying.
The difference in treatment was stark: my friend, who is white-passing, was met with warmth and kindness, while I was met with rudeness, disbelief, and hostility. After finally speaking to me, he dismissed me with a disgusting look and told me to “come back after we check security footage.” I eventually got the correct change, but only four hours later. I literally had to come back after my busy day to solve this issue, cuz he was making me feel crazy as if I was imagining the whole thing. But even my friend witnessed me handing him a $20 bill, and there was no way I was gonna spend $20 on a singular iced black coffee.
What was meant to be the highlight of my day ended up leaving a sour taste. I’ve made countless viral TikToks celebrating Mattos cafés before, but after this experience, I’ll never step foot in a Matto again. There’s better cafes in the area. And matto, do better with ur customer service. It was giving MACROagression

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat. Service was great. Place was very clean.
Taste is okay! Nothing really to write home about. Espresso doesn’t really have any body to it. 3 stars because my drink was almost milk white and tasted only of oat. Ended up having to turn around and order another shot just to be able to taste it.
