McSorley’s Old Ale House is a true New York institution and one of the city’s oldest dive bars. Located in the East Village, this historic watering hole has a timeless charm, with its original wooden benches, dark wood paneling, and a collection of historical memorabilia that takes you back in time.

The beer selection is simple but perfect, offering just two options: light or dark ale. It’s the kind of place where the atmosphere is as much a part of the experience as the drink itself. The vibe is relaxed, with patrons often engaging in friendly banter and the occasional live music.

Don’t skip the classic McSorley’s cheese and crackers, a no-frills but delicious snack. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, McSorley’s is the quintessential dive bar experience—welcoming, unpretentious, and full of character.

A must visit place for locals and out of town visitors. The decor speaks volumes to the history of this Irish bar. CASH ONLY, so come prepared. They only serve two types of ale here, light and dark. You get served two ales on every order automatically. Definitely do yourself a favor and try a one and one. You will not regret it!!

The service was very bad. We sat down and asked for the menu. The old man pointed wall and said there it is and left immediately. It wasn't the drink menu that we were looking for. We waited until the guy came back only to find out this place only served one kind of drink which is beer. Ok I guess it's well known for the local but not tourists like us.
When we paid for the bills, they only
accepted cash (no cards at all). I told him we don't have cash and he was rushing to go to the atm to withdraw money which of course charges us extra fees. This was not transparent at all. Very rude and somewhat scam here. No way I would come back ever.

As one of America's oldest and most iconic bars, McSorley's Old Ale House offers a unique experience for those who want to feel the spirit of the past. Founded in 1854, this historical place takes you on a journey through time with its handcrafted beers and nostalgic atmosphere. The flavor you feel in every sip of the beer reveals the quality and character of this place, which has remained intact for years. Especially the intense and balanced taste of ale beers is definitely worth trying.

The bar has a charming ambience with its sawdust-covered floors, antique wall decorations and historical items. When you enter, you feel that the stories of the past permeate the walls. McSorley's Old Ale House is definitely an unforgettable stop for those who want to experience both historical texture and taste together in a warm, friendly environment. When you come here, you not only drink a beer, but also experience a moment alone with history.

This place has so much history. It’s the oldest running Irish pup in the city, going in is like going back in time. The service is great, the atmosphere is just amazing and their beer is just so good - both dark and light. I love everything about this place and totally recommend it
