I have been going to Mei Lai Wah for over 50 years and some influencers told everyone of this hidden gem...
The prices have skyrocketed to $2.50 (before tax), a pork bun now. It has always had the best baked pork buns along with the defunct Hop Shing but the craziness of the lines and not enough employees in the front end. If you are patient enough to wait in line at this small location for a taste of heaven, yes, the pork bun is that great, then this is the place.
I...
I unfortunately get the hype…

The outer layer of the pineapple bun is super buttery and crispy and the the bun itself is soft and fluffy. The pork inside is tender and was sweeter than I expected but it pairs so well with the little saltiness on the pineapple bun crust.

Super addicting, super delicious! Great for a quick bite when in Chinatown!
Got the roasted pork bun and the red bean buns.

Pork bun was warm and well spiced (seasoned, not spicy), and a little sweet on the outside. The dough itself was fluffy.

The red bean buns were incredibly soft and less sweet than you would expect, but it worked beautifully. Would absolutely go back.

Also the line moves quite fast whether you have cash or card. We paid with cash and only had to wait about 5-10 minutes in line.
