Have lived in Harlem for 7 years now, and I want to love this place so badly. My husband and I have gone many times, but are always kind of disappointed. They only have two wines on the menu, and they are both really bad. Just like, truly terrible. I don't get why they wouldn't invest in having a few drinkable wines on the menu. I've tried getting cocktails as well, though I'm not a big cocktail person, but they make them all with a ton of those small ice cubes, so they're super watered down. It's so close to being a good bar.

Excellent cocktails and service for the price. This place caters to mid-market clientele of all ages. If you bump into someone under 35 (in general), they are respectful and ambitious. This is perfect for a first date and a great neighborhood happy hour meeting place, any day of the week.

I love Mess Hall so much, especially in the summer with the outdoor seating. I bring my friends often and they share the same sentiments. The bartenders and other staff are wonderful. I don’t really explore the food as much, but the fritos and chili from my last visit was hot and filling. My go to is the frozen margarita - delicious and strong.

Bartender with facial hair was incredibly rude. I ordered my first drink from him at the bar. I then went back to get a second and he scolded me for “hovering around the bar” (I hadn’t been standing there more than 5 seconds) and then said I had to order from a server. He spoke to me and looked at me like I was a child and continued to speak passive aggressively to me while I tried to explain that I had already put my card down with him. Conversation ended with him telling me to walk away. Great way to treat paying (and tipping) customers. Safe to say I will never be returning and will actively be telling those I know to stay away.

I've been playing darts since I was a kid. I'm from Maryland & was in the Big Apple on a business trip. I was walking around Harlem heading into Central Park area - I looked and saw 🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯, I played some of the locals and over the course of my trip, met some of Kool cats! I recommend luck of draws, beginners welcome! Their dart teams are also pretty competitive on the NYC circuit! Always a good time!

Mess Hall is one of my go-to spots in Harlem! It’s hard for me to find a bar where I feel totally comfortable going solo, but Mess Hall is the exception.
Their happy hour can’t be beat - drink specials until 8pm! The drinks are strong, the prices are right, and the vibe is always chill but fun. The space has a cool, laid-back feel, and if you go in the summer sit in the front sidewalk seating. Or their cute backyard.
The staff are all great and genuinely kind people.
