The meal was, as always, Fabulous, BUT..I brought to the restaurant parchment paper and as we ate, we filled from our selections, making it sashimi in Papillote> when finished assembling ( salmon plus daikon plus shiso plus walnuts and grapefruit from a lovely salad we sealed the en papillote and asked the waitress for 5 minutes at 450 degrees. It was delicious.

We eat at momoya regularly. The food is consistently excellent, but it is the amazing service we get from the wonderful staff, especially Ethan the manager who has welcomed us each week with a smile and incredible service. While this may be our local sushi spot the knowledge and professionalism he brings to the experience is at a 5 star level. If you're looking for sushi on the upper west side, this is a great choice. You won't be disappointed with the food or the service.

The lunch special is superb. My only comment is that the restrooms need updating. Definitely not ADA-compliant and the low and tiny toilet is a challenge even for healthy, older adults.

Super disappointed with the food quality.. I feel like it has gone down considerably. Service was lovely however.

We just paid $83 for the smallest most mediocre pieces of sushi I have ever. This is insane. Do yourself a favor visit the one in Chelsea which offers larger portions at a better price. The Greenwich roll is $25 and only comes with 5 pieces. The crispy tuna was half the size and cold as ice. So disappointing

Consistently good Asian food Cost has gone from expensive to very expensive Not all tables taken at prime time Sunday evening which might reflect patron hesitancy due to cost. $185 for two with tip, one gin tonic each, gyoza-spicy shrimp-eggplant appy plus two rolls, no dessert

Really nice, friendly service and the sushi was very fresh. The cocktail was overpriced and underwhelming though, I would not order anything alcoholic except sake there.

Too loud at dinner time, service was a little slower than usual but the food was excellent as always.

First it is important to say that the food is excellent - actually, some of the best sushi I have ever had. The host at the front desk was personable and very accommodating as we asked for a take out menu. We placed our order from a menu that was handed to us by this same host, and waited for it to be ready. I noticed a bustling restaurant with very hard working people.

The problem I had was with a manager. After returning to our apartment with food in hand, we noticed that we were over charged. We compared the receipt charges for several rolls, appetizer, and soup with what we had seen on the restaurant menu handed to us. We checked online and saw the exact same prices as the in store menu had listed. The amount of overcharge was $26.00.
I called the restaurant and got the same host on the phone, and explained what I had noticed and asked that the overcharge be credited back onto my credit card. She was gracious and had to clear with the manager.

The manager called me back promptly and informed me that the computer does not lie when putting in food entries and that the prices had changed awhile ago. I understand that prices change at times, but the menu we were given did not reflect those changes. Perhaps whoever was responsible for making the price changes accidentally missed one menu, and that is the one we were given to order from. Perhaps the person responsible for updating the online menu likewise missed taking down the older version of the menu? Would the manager allow for that possibility and assume the best of intentions on my part that I had no other motive to call the restaurant other than to recoup the overcharge. He would not budge. He again told me the computer does not lie. I asked if he thought I was lying. Again he told me the computer does not lie. That third same answer in a row was code for yes he did believe I was lying.
I was appalled and insulted.

So, this manager, instead of demonstrating exemplary business acumen and refund the $26.00 instead was left with a highly disgruntled customer. He should not be in a management position. His bottom line was money and not the customer. I will never return to Momoya UWS. That's no big deal for their bottom line. My $117.00 will not make them or break them.
There are plenty of other fine sushi restaurants and I will frequent those instead. Future take out customers, take heed.

What this very inept and short sighted manager does not realize is that in the end I lost $26.00; he on the other hand has lost my trust. He may not care, but I do.
In time he will be the one to decide which costs more.
