Moody Tongue was excellent!! My friends and I got a great people watching seat against the window and made it right in time for the tail end of happy hour. We got the happy hour nigiri roll which happened to be salmon, and it was excellent. We paired this with the two different gyozas on the regular menu which we also loved! For my main dish, I got the spicy tuna nigiri roll which was also excellent. I can’t wait to come back here!

Amazing food drinks and atmosphere. Did the Hand Roll and martini bar side of the restaurant, never had hand roll before, all that seaweed scared me, ended up eating 9. Uson behind the bar was a king, every bite crafted with perfect flavor. I drown my sushi in soy sauce but here i didn’t even want any. Will be back for other side of the restaurant.

Wandered in here with a friend during a game of “Happy Hour Roulette” in the neighborhood — what a fantastic find.

I tried the Pineapple Orange IPA and ordered the standard happy hour Maki Roll; I was totally blown away about how fresh the salmon was which lead me to order another.

Service was pleasant, fast, and attentive. Lighting wasn’t too dim and it wasn’t too loud so we were able to hold a conversation and have a good time.

This is a solid happy hour spot and I’m excited to go back to try the dinner menu and for future happy hours. Excellent job with the NYC location. Cheers! 🍣🍻

Food is mediocre and it’s clear that management does not know what they’re doing.

I almost swallowed a tiny piece of PLASTIC in the toro hand roll that I ordered!!! This is unacceptable and never happened to me at any other restaurant I’ve been in New York. It is crazy that they did nothing with this situation after I told the server. No discount no any form of apology to make up for our bad experience.

My business partner and I visit Moody Tongue Sushi a few times a year but after our most recent visit, I’m genuinely disappointed. As a Michelin-starred company, I'd expect a certain level of professionalism, and sadly, it seems to have slipped. The atmosphere has definitely changed. There’s a noticeable lack of experience and coordination with the host and everyone else. While our server Gia was sweet and attentive, the person who brought our sushi wasn’t able to fully explain the different items or how it was prepared. No one seemed to have a clear idea of what was going on, definitely not what look you'd expect from a Michelin-star restaurant group. Everything just felt sloppy. The service has definitely gone downhill. This place was once a highlight for us during every visit to the city, but now, it feels like a shadow of its former self. It’s such a shame. I used to love the welcoming atmosphere at Moody Tongue, but this time it felt like we were seen more as dollar signs than as valued guests.

Loved this spot! Perfect for a date night or cozy spot to catch up with a friend. The rolls were all flawless and delicious as were the martinis. I will absolutely be back!

Hands down the best hand roll bar I’ve ever been to! The flavors were absolutely insane—every bite melted in my mouth and felt like a completely new experience. What really sets this place apart is the chef’s style: no chopsticks, no extra sauces—he creates the perfect flavor pairings himself and hands the roll directly to you. It feels personal, intentional, and unforgettable. On top of that, the chef was so friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. After trying other spots, I can confidently say nothing compares—this is my new go-to!

Classy spot! Went in a group of 5 which was perfect to share a bunch of small plates. I was most impressed with the vibrant flavors in the cucumber salad and corn gyoza but can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, especially the torched corn scallop. And we also loved the cocktails. Great atmosphere for conversation, busy but not too loud! I would come back in a heartbeat

The food was excellent and truly the highlight of the experience, Unfortunately, the front-of-house staff was disorganized and lacked basic knowledge of food, wine, and sushi service. One server said she would bring us soy sauce while another asked if we wanted any, showing a lack of communication. One server asked if we are interested in beer and we said no, but then another server came and pushed beer on us even after we declined. Neither could suggest a dry white wine which is the most simple request of all time. I had to select something familiar off the by the glass list, only to be told we weren’t allowed to taste anything, which was disappointing. We were ready to order a $30 glass of champagne but settled for something cheaper since we could not taste or smell the wine to see if it is our style and the servers were not confident the champagne was dry. I’ve never encountered this kind of refusal before especially from two people who seemed to have zero wine knowledge. I’m not saying anyone needs to be a sommelier but if you’re not allowing me to taste the wine, you should be able to at least tell me if it is a dry wine. The hostess also seemed brand new, speaking loudly about late reservations and sounding unsure of how to handle it. When the late guests finally arrived, they were taken to a back room we hadn’t even been told about. After asking, we found out it was a martini and hand roll bar, which we would have loved to experience. Discovering it after being seated at a regular table, away from the chef, made our experience less enjoyable and honestly at this point we wanted to leave. With just one manager with some restaurant experience, this place could improve significantly. I might not return, but I would still recommend it for the food, especially for a casual night out.

Great happy hour deal. Chef special was a 10/10. Nice variety of cocktail for a good price. Decent hours.

Wagyu nigiri was overrated and came cold.

Besides that one singular piece, would come back for sure.

Went here when they were new, and while very good…their new set up is crazy good. We now come pretty much weekly and cant get enough… handroll omakase on one side…and other times for regular ala carte or nigiri omakase on the other. Honestly some of the best in the city (and that’s hard to do). Also tons of beer on tap and amazing cocktails and service.
