The place is fine. Potentially cozy. It's pricey but that's Manhattan for you. You're paying for the real estate when you need to park yourself somewhere.

I do take issue with how they try to rip people off. It happens too often. For example, there's an order of fries for $11 or a $5 side with a sandwich. They will try to charge the $11. They'll argue that you didn't specify and they just assumed that a single person wanted the full plate of fries with a burger. Because that's normal? No.

I literally work down the street and it’s diabolical work that after spending close to 20.00 for three muffins can’t even get two muffins warmed up. Won’t be returning. Customer Service lacking.

My water had so much debris in it that it looked like a sea monkey farm. My diet coke was entirely flat and tasted very off. I paid $14 for a grilled cheese that could have come from a school cafeteria. The side it came with was 3 bites of rubbery expired coleslaw that I wouldn't eat. My friend got capellini pomodoro for $30 that was nothing more than noodles with a small amount of canned watery stewed tomatoes on noodles. Tasteless.
The waitress would make a good strip club bouncer.
Not worth it. I've had great meals at other cafes on Madison for the same price.

I would never recommend Nectar to anyone after the terrible treatment my family and I received from the hostess, Nancy. From the moment we walked in, she was rude and dismissive. Before we could even sit down, she demanded to know if we were eating, stating, “If you don’t eat, you’re not going to sit here.” We assured her that we were dining, but instead of welcoming us, she rolled her eyes, sucked her teeth, and threw the menus onto the table.

The hostility didn’t end there. Throughout our entire meal, she continued to glare at us with a nasty expression, making us feel incredibly uncomfortable. What made this even worse was watching how she treated other customers—specifically, white diners—with kindness and grace. It was painfully obvious that we were being treated differently, and while I hate to assume, it certainly felt racially motivated.

As for the food? Completely mediocre and bland—not worth the disrespectful treatment. We were starving, which is the only reason we stayed, but I regret every second of it. I ordered a Gyro and the server delivered us a sauce and she instructed him to not give us anything. No one should have to sit through such an uncomfortable and unwelcoming experience just to eat a meal. If you value being treated with basic decency, avoid this place at all costs—unless, of course, you fit the “right” profile. Disgusting behavior, unacceptable service, and subpar food.

⭐ 1/5—would give zero if I could.

We went here for afternoon tea after spending a rainy NY Saturday at The Met. It was a relief to sit down and have something to eat after battling the hordes of people who were crowding out every square inch of the Met Museum all day.

The wait staff were friendly and helpful and our order of tea and cake came out quickly. The diner was packed and it was a little uncomfortable sitting in a tightly packed space with so many people dripping wet from the rain. But hey, it’s NYC, whatareyagonnado?

It was hard to judge the quality of the food because I was so tired and hungry anything would have tasted good.

Hats off to them though, they have got a good little operation going on here.

I had one of the most blatantly racist experiences of my life here. I walked into the restaurant and was seated by a nice man (he is the only reason that I gave the service two starts instead of one). For context, I was the only black customer in the establishment. When i first sat down, i noticed that the white ladies who worked there were giving me nasty looks from across the restaurant. Immediately, i got the feeling that i was not wanted there. I even attempted to smile at them but their faces remained the same. My server (the nice man) came to take my order (I ordered a bagel and a latte for about $11). The ladies were still starting at me, and after a few minutes my food was ready. One of the ladies (the one who was staring the hardest) brought me my meal and I said “hi” with a smile and “thank you so much.” She refused to smile back, she refused to speak to me, she wouldn’t even look at me. I am not even exaggerating when I say that she honestly looked disgusted. the staff had foreign accents so i assumed that maybe she just couldn’t speak English. After dropping off my food, she proceeded to walk over to a white man, and in the friendliest way possible, speaking the clearest English, she greeted him and took his order. I watched her make small talk with other white customers while i was there. Meanwhile, this lady refused to even look me in my eyes, much less smile or speak. I was genuinely shocked. Not that it should matter, but I am a woman, 21 years old, 5’7 and 110 pounds. I was not doing anything “threatening” or “suspicious” in any way. If i tried to leave without paying, it would have been incredibly easy for them to stop me because of my size. My reason for providing this context is to explain that all i did to make this woman dislike me was simply exist. Despite my terrible experience, I tipped my server $5 on an $11 bill. I would not recommend this place if you are black, or to anyone at all. If you can’t politely service ALL of your customers, you are providing bad service.

I went to the dinner yesterday and ordered a chicken salad sandwich and it came out and tasted like out of date tuna and mayo. Needless to say I’ve been up since 3am throwing up with food poisoning from this place, Also to not that the bill came to $100 for the worst meal of my life. The service from the waiters was lovely but I would not recommend eating at this diner, if you value your gut.

Great post-Met spot. Really lovely service and good diner fare. I found the cramped atmosphere charming, but it won’t be suitable for fussier clientele.

Over priced mediocre food. The restaurant is EXTREMELY packed, probably a fire hazard, and the staff rush you to order and start dismantling your table before you’re even standing up to collect your things and go. Find somewhere else, you’ll be happier.

The atmosphere was completely ruined by what was probably the owner—a somewhat older blonde woman with an extremely pushy attitude, who every two minutes tried to aggressively upsell with an excessively mean tone. The bright spot was the Mexican staff. Iam not coming back.

We went here for breakfast before going to the Metropolitan Museum. We were greeted by the hostess, who was very nice, and sat outside. We had wanted to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and experience the morning activities going around. After we sat we were promptly served water by the server who also asked what we wanted to drink. We asked for a couple of cappuccino. Shortly after the waiter came to take our order. We had just sat down and hadn't had time to look over the menu.

When we were ready to order, the waiter was not too patient with us when we had questions. He was a bit curt with his response. When the cappuccino came, it was slightly cool. The food came and it was good; we had the omelette and the corned beef hash and eggs that came with toast. The server came by several times to keep our water filled and see if we needed anything. The waiter didn't come once until the end, when we asked for the check.

Overall, it's a good place, close to the Metropolitan Museum, the waiter could be more helpful, especially to tourists.
