Been there a few times, food is usually decent if overpriced (6.5 for small onigiri!) but today the sushi rice was hard like uncooked or leftover. The man is not particularly friendly & the 50 cent card charge seems silly.

I ordered the vegan curry noodle and it was so bland and thin, absolutely not worth the price ($19 with tax). The stand looks authentic but doesn’t deliver on flavor at all. I recommend going to the Italian restaurant next to it instead.

Awful. Absolutely awful. The portion was so laughably small. My photo shows the exact amount I received. I thought someone had eaten half of it when I opened it. $18 !!

Sure, if they skimped on the tuna it would be more understandable. But they gave me like two spoonfuls of brown rice and a few pieces of greens, which are just standard ingredients. There’s nothing else, either: just rice, avocado, tuna, and a bit of nori and sesame. No sauce. No flavor.

I complained to the guy who served me and he just smirked, shrugged and said “That’s what we do.” It was such a blatant rip-off that it was comical.

Always late to open. Unwelcoming signage. Unfriendly staff. Amazing products and food.

i had been ordering the salmon onigiri for the last couple of years - but today i had to spit it out - ordered two salmon onigiri - one tasted like soap and the other one tasted sour - we are taking a break from this place unfortunately

Yummy brown rice dishes, very tasty and healthy Japanese options

Looks authentic at glance. But what they sell seem outdated with dust and overpriced. I still wanted to try and ordered two donburi bowls and disappointed. They both just like unrolled sushi and definitely not worth $60 for the cheap meals. Never again! I recommend the fish market that’s also inside of Essex Market for sashimi quality. I’m a Japanese, so trust me.

Healthy and fresh selection!

Authentic, fresh, healthy, low sodium—tastes like the food from the bathhouses in Hakone, Japan. They also stock natto, unpasturized soy sauce, kombucha, brown rice varities, and so much more. I haven't seen many specialized japanese stores in the city like this! Also they have unsweetened matcha lattes :)I like how it is fast causal dining and they give the food in compostable takeout containers. Only thing is that their prices are steep for food. The matcha latte was reasonable.

$23 for a black cod bento box with the smallest piece of cod I’ve ever seen. A bit too overpriced for me

Bento boxes were delicious. We tried black cod and mackerel.

Delicious, tasty, fresh, healthy - everything I love and prioritize for food! It was a bit expensive for what it is, but the salmon bento brought me so much joy! The kabocha side dish was also really tasty. The food felt like a home cooked meal and was the perfect portion size for one, with extra pumpkin to last a few meals. Miso soup was good but not memorable

The spicy tuna donburi is delicious, definitely one of the best you can get in the city! Great selection of hard to find Japanese goods

Overpriced, under whelming, and very small portions. Not worth the prices nor flavor.

I was mistaken in my accounting. When I looked at the receipt, I was charged for the item my friend bought. They don't give me paper receipts, so I had them send me the details by email just in case, so I found out. When I asked for it later, it was credited to my credit card, but it was credited to my friend's card, not mine.It may not be intentional, but it's a store that you can't let your guard down. It's not amiable, and I think that if you're Japanese, it's better to make it yourself. Not worth the price at all and will never go again. If you really want to go, go when the female clerk (landlady?) is there, be sure to get a receipt (email only) and pay in cash.
