Really liked this place but man has it gotten expensive. The steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious, and the crab stuffed mushrooms were insanely good. I felt duped by the waiter though because we ordered apps and as he was walking away he said “would you guys like some bread for the table?” Which I assumed was complimentary….but it was $10. So, watch out for that, it’s deceptive behavior.

This is not the old homestead I remember as a kid. They downsized so when you walk inside it’s like walking into dark cave with no windows, jam packed and super loud. The food itself was ok but not impressed as I hoped it would be. Steaks were tasty but the sides were not what I remember. We got the 12 oysters which were good, 2 colossal shrimp which were super hard and chewy, different steaks: sirloin & filet mignons which were good but the garlic mash potatoes were nothing special. The cream of spinach and Mac n cheese were tasty. I think I’m more disappointed with the ambience than the food. I would avoid the shrimp and get a different side instead of the mash.

We recently visited Olde Hempstead Steak House to celebrate my cousin’s birthday. Overall, we had a good experience. Our server, Melvin, was attentive and did a nice job taking care of our table throughout the evening.

The highlight of the meal was the special on the 32 oz. porterhouse for two, which included a salad for each person and two sides. It was a great value and the steak was enjoyable.

There were a couple of challenges during our visit. We were initially seated at a very tight table for our group, although the staff eventually accommodated us by adding another table, which made things much more comfortable. We also would have appreciated more flexibility with splitting the bill. We had hoped to divide the checks and cover the birthday guest’s meal separately, but that wasn’t something they were able to accommodate.

Despite those issues, the food was good, the porterhouse special offered excellent value, and Melvin provided great service. With a few adjustments to guest accommodations, the experience could be even better.

No-frills just excellence in what they do which makes them by far one of the top steakhouses in NYC.

I was with a large group and had to pause because of how mind blown I was at the flavor of the food.
CRABCAKES: Alright what the hell, these crabcakes are probably one of the best crabcakes I've ever had. HUGE chunks of crab and the flavor was this perfect savory flavor that I couldn't stop focusing on. MUST get this. Certified Baller Status.
BACON: I know what you're thinking, oh it's just bacon, NO, this is VERY thick cut bacon that has the bounciest texture. I could not stop eating this. Also a MUST get. 100% certified baller status.
STEAK: Oh my goodness. Perfectly cooked and tender up the wahoo. You will not be disappointed with the steak they give you.
THE MEH: I dont recommend the bread. It's a fun tower looking thing but it's really just unimpressive when it comes to flavor. The asparagus is nothing special. It's just straight up steamed or boiled or something.

This is the quintessential New York steakhouse—the kind of place that reminds you why steakhouses became legendary in the first place.

From the dry-aged steak to the salad, every dish was executed with confidence and restraint. Nothing was drenched in gimmicks or over-the-top seasoning because the ingredients actually speak for themselves. The quality of the meat was exceptional—rich, perfectly aged, and cooked like the kitchen actually respects steak instead of committing culinary assault against it.

The interior absolutely nails that timeless steakhouse atmosphere: dark wood, classic energy, lively conversations, and the unmistakable feeling that you’re dining somewhere with real character instead of another sterile Instagram set disguised as a restaurant.

And yes, it’s lively—not library quiet—but that’s part of the charm. A real steakhouse should have energy, glasses clinking, people enjoying themselves, and servers moving with purpose. If you want silence, go eat a protein bar in your car.

Frankly, anyone giving this place less than 5 stars either has broken taste buds, orders steak well-done with ketchup, or simply needs their head examined.

10/10 experience, especially for an occasion. The staff was effortlessly zipping around and depsite an incredibly busy dining room, you never felt overlooked. All meals were delicious & cooked perfectly. Highly recommend the Chef's Special Bread Preparation. Also recommend taking a moment to appreciate the attention to detail; by the staff, on the tables and the decor. The post cards on the second floor walls were a huge hit with our group.

Very disappointing experience. We were rushed from the second we sat down - despite having made a reservation. The food quality was poor especially considering the price - the steak was tough.

The seating was great. The ambiance was wonderful. And the staff was fantastic as this was my proposal night to my girlfriend. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody. That was coming to New York City or who lived here.!!

My partner had to send back his roast beef twice as was raw then fried then brought back just as raw. He was so looking forward to their roast beef but clearly the entire beef wasn't cooked enough Staff extremely nice and took off bill. We left huge tip as they knew it wasn't right. My filet was delicious but to go down town to be so disappointed not repeating! :(

Old-school New York charm done right. Old Homestead Steakhouse delivers everything you want from a classic Manhattan steakhouse — rich history, impeccable service, and steaks cooked to absolute perfection.
The porterhouse was beautifully seared with incredible flavor and tenderness, while the sides were generous and executed just as thoughtfully. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between upscale and comfortable, making it ideal for both business dinners and special nights out.
What really sets this place apart is the consistency and professionalism of the staff — attentive without being intrusive, and genuinely welcoming.
If you’re looking for a timeless New York dining experience with top-tier steak, this spot absolutely lives up to its reputation.
