I have been going to this restaurant for many many years. I found in the past two years the space looks a bit run down, and in need of serious updating, but by far the biggest disappointment happened the last time I was there a few months ago. Not 1 or 2 but 3 mice ran through the middle of the restaurant :(.. I really do hope the owner addresses these serious issues. It will be sad if this great restaurant is closed down. I want to make it very clear I love love the food. I’ve taken many friends and family here because the duck especially is soo good!! The owner is friendly and staff is ok. It makes me sad to write this review but even more sad that I cannot go back there after the last experience 😞

I’ve been coming to Peking Duck House for years, and the food has never disappointed. The duck is consistently crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, and carved tableside with a flourish. It’s easily one of the best renditions of Peking duck you’ll find in the city. The scallion pancakes, stir-fried greens, and duck buns are also top-notch.
That said, the price has nearly doubled over the past few years, which makes it harder to justify as a regular go-to. What used to feel like a splurge now borders on extravagant. Still, if you’re celebrating something special or introducing someone to the magic of Peking duck, it’s hard to beat the experience.
Great food, excellent service — just be prepared for the sticker shock.

You should put on google that you are closed all July. Thanks for making me waste money and time.
My favorite Chinese place to take people to. It has all your favorites, but done to the highest quality. The service is impeccable and the food is outstanding.
Definitely a good place, food was delicious. Service was a bit slow, maybe because it was very busy.

Charged me 20% tip without telling me before tax on a 400 bill. How do u charge 20% tip without conferring with the customer

Iconic, old school with solid quick service. Seems a bit dated but for a New York City feeling it still does well. They could do so much to improve but the food and reputation stands strong. Have been here plenty of times and will continue to eat here.

Just had lunch here with my parents and they tacked on 20% tip (on top of tax - see photo of the receipt) for three guests. If policy changed, it would be nice if you included a note on the receipt about a mandatory service charge. It’s incredibly rude when the server hand writes on the tip line in the receipt. You can add a service charge and I have no problem paying. However, giving a tip is my right, not yours. I’m never coming back again.

Before we finished the Peking duck I ordered, the waiter took a look at the pancakes we hadn't finished yet and took them away without my consent. It was really unreasonable and seemed to be urging us to leave earlier. It was simply outrageous. I have never seen such a bad restaurant. I suggest you not to eat here. I will never go there again. Disgusting service!
If you're thinking about coming here for Authentic Peking Duck, don't.
You're paying real Peking Duck prices ($88) for essentially normal roast duck that you can get from Chinese supermarkets for <$40 (you even get to keep the carcass if you buy it from the market).
Problems with the "Peking Duck" at this place:
- The skin is soggy instead of crispy
- The skin is dull and brown with no hint of red that you'd expect from proper Peking Duck
- For those who like the skin dipped in sugar, there's no such thing here
- Thicker parts (e.g., the breast) are dry
- Soy sauce-based marinade (which I'm pretty sure shouldn't be used at all) overpowers the taste of the duck
- The wraps that traditionally come with Peking Duck are just steamed tortillas. Same smell and thickness. You're paying $88 for (maybe) 8 duck tacos
Other nit-picks:
- Green onions are not cut properly. They're the right length, but there were several pieces of just whole "cylinders" of onion. They should be in small slivers.
- Cucumbers are also cut haphazardly
- There was only enough cucumber for 4 wraps
- We waited for 20-30 mins even though we had a reservation
- Power went out in our dining area for 15 mins
In general the food is fine, but they advertise themselves as a Peking Duck place (and price the dish as such) so I'm judging them based off that.
Another factor for the low rating is that the food is overpriced; I would say by about 50%. As a point of reference. they charge $33 for General Tso's (or Sesame Chicken, if you're more familiar with that dish). Not saying anyone should be ordering General Tso's from a Peking Duck place; this is just to illustrate how inflated the prices are.
I'm guessing at one point they were good and authentic, and they either got a new chef or they're just relying on their reputation to lure unsuspecting customers into overpaying for normal roast duck.

Restaurantji Recommends
I have been their customers for 46 years,
My last visit tonight was a total disappointment.
The service was a disaster, the duck taste was very bad.
There wasn't even a hot towel they'd given for years to clean hands after a meal eaten with hands.
Tonight was the last time I went to this restaurant, I don't recommend anyone to go there either.
Going to Peking Duck House is a waste of time and money, disappointing in taste.

Nothing special but, it was a decent Chinese food.
4 stars
Only because I wish they had of brought the fried banana and the ice cream together as it’s good to eat together.

This is the most disappointing duck (that is branded as a traditional Peking duck) I've had. If you are just selling "Peking duck" in a take out store, then I don't have expectations. But this place seems to be a nice restaurant with hopefully close to authentic duck given the setup - nope.
Duck skins are not crispy at all. The wrap is literally tortillas... Who does that??
And every good duck place I went to offered to make something out of the duck body or let you take it home, given that you are only eating a small portion of the entire duck you paid for. This place did not give me anything other than a plate of cuts. Honestly the duck body is usually a big reason for me to order a full duck, and they just kept it for themselves??

Excellent duck! Highly recommend. Next time, I will ask for the rest of the duck. I bet there was some good meat on that head.
