(Update after the owner’s response: I was wrong. As a New Yorker, why I didn’t expect to pay tax is a mystery even to me. My apologies to the establishment. I’ve corrected the star count and left the original review below as a small monument to my - hopefully momentary - lapse in reason.)

We enjoyed our visit and will return.

On the plus side:
The best Guinness I’ve had in a long time. The atmosphere was great. My Pop Pop’s Top Shelf Award-Winning Cheeseburger was excellent—likely the best I’ve had, though I should’ve ordered medium, not well-done.

On the downside:
My wife’s Reuben pastrami was a bit too sour, and there was no choice of bread on the menu or offered. The bill was hard to read and stapled to a receipt kept by the pub, so we didn’t get a proper copy. We ordered $36 worth of food, one Guinness, and one glass of water, but the total was $51—meaning either the Guinness cost $15 or we were charged for the water. The menu didn’t list drink prices, which felt lacking in transparency.

It’s not a major issue, but it keeps this from being a five-star experience, at least in retrospect. And the idea of Guinness - albeit well pulled - being $15 feels a bit steep.

Overall, a very good place worth visiting. It’s certainly not just another famous New York “filming location” like the Seinfeld diner — it’s a genuine, quaint Irish pub with real character and soul.

Bartender was lovely. Nice old NYC pub vibe. I ordered the award winning burger. It was too salty and just fine.

Lovely place with wonderful service and food! We are so glad we found it while walking in the city on a beautiful December day. We had the Reuben/Tot special and it was delicious...we will be back soon!

Classic old Irish pub, gritty, full of character and locals. One of the true spots in the city, it absolutely needs to be on your list.

You can feel the history as soon as you walk in. I got there a few minutes after the opened at and the locals were already crowding in and everybody knew everyone else and it was a nice respite from the craziness outside. I had Pop Pop's top shelf burger and I would totally get it again. I chose this place because of a scene from Highlander that was filmed there but I would go back just because of who they are. Love it.

Just a great neighborhood pub. Close to 100 years old I think. And for good reason. The staff is awesome and so are the numerous regulars. Always friendly and familiar faces in the joint. People really love the signature burger - the pop pop I think it is - but I tend to opt for the classic bacon cheeseburger. Steak fries are potentially polarizing - I cannot understand why - but that’s your default side. Can also opt for tots or onion rings. Have a nice potato salad too - really nice if they are just making it and you can get it while still warm or room temp (that’s a southern thing). It looks like they sell a lot of wings but I have to say the chicken fingers may be the best out there. Kids or no kids the fingers are tip top. Rumor has it his eminence Cardinal Dolan has been known to take a pint or two on a random afternoon as well. All the other celebrity sightings tend to be nonchalant affairs. Enjoy.

Went in for 2 quick pints - 20$. Left 2$ tip on the bill, would have equaled 22$. However, was charged 42! May have been in error but defo not good.

3rd best Irish pub in NYC? I hope not. Extremely ropey pint of Guinness

Both the cooks and servers deliver the same quality with each visit. Team members deliver care comparable to their culinary mastery. Peter McManus Cafe is perfect for dining with friends. Their portions satisfy at prices that are fair. The restaurant provides unmatched quality for the price.
