This was an important evening. My best friend’s birthday, meeting my significant other for the first time and a lot to celebrate. Sam was our server and she was attentive, lovely, informed and provided an evening of perfect, friendly and personal service. We shared appetizers which were fabulous (calamari / don’t miss it) and we had specials; whole chicken which was super moist and so tasty; Salmon with a salad that was outstanding; and steak frites - a classic that was flawless, tender and shoestring French fired with herbs that were perfect! Sam surprised us with a beautiful cake and candles and sang along with us. The ambiance of live plants and banquets is so lovely! Ian Schrager created magic in all he does and this restaurant is no exception - Stellar!
Everyone from the busboy to the manager treats you well. People working at this place were approachable and kind. Every bite provided amazing flavor. The staff at Popular enhances the cool atmosphere. This spot delivered complete satisfaction.

My route today brought me right past this restaurant. I will let my relatives know about this restaurant where both the food and service impress. Their team manages crowds while maintaining service standards. Bit by bit, I'm exploring their complete menu. The bottom line is: Popular is fantastic.

Spectacular atmosphere with outstanding service by Ian. He was considerate and accommodating. Definitely recommend for a special date night!
Unreal experience, everything kept getting worse and worse and ended in tears! Hosted my bachelorette at the hotel and decided to book a 10:15am reservation for brunch on Saturday. It clearly has good reviews and I was excited! However the restaurant was nearly empty on a weekend morning and now I know why! We were seated by the male host pretty quickly, but we sat without service or acknowledgment for around 30-40 minutes, which was wild especially again considering the restaurant was NOT BUSY! We were definitely hungry and looking forward to coffee by this point so I got up from the table and asked the male host who seated us if we could please order some coffees. About ten minutes later a waitress came and by this point we were starving (two of the girls were pregnant and needed to eat) and we had nearly an hour to stare at the menu so we ordered food and coffee together. We asked why the service was slow and were told we were seated by the host in the wrong area as if it was our fault. One would also think there would be an apology or maybe even some sort of rush or acknowledgement on their end after it’s been brought to their attention that we’ve been waiting almost an hour to order coffees. Nope! Coffees didn’t come for another 20 minutes at which point it was 11:15am an hour after our reservation. More time passed, and we were uneasy that our orders had even been entered in. Once again we got up from our table to ask about this and were assured they were working on it. More time passed and at this point we’re approaching close to 2 hours since the time we sat down and 3 plates came out from the kitchen.. for four of us. The third plate of food was nothing any of us ordered and the kitchen took it back. We also realized plate number two was incomplete and missing a side of fruit that it came with. When we said something to the male host who seated us who was the only person we could find he got defensive, snappy and rude and made us feel EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE. We asked to speak to the manager who offered to comp our coffees that we waited an hour for and seemed to care less as if this happened all the time!? At this point it had been two hours and I cried. This was my Bachelorette brunch at Popular and one of my biggest regrets. The way we were treated was extremely cold and unwelcoming. Great way to start our day and end our trip together. I’ve truly never experienced service like this before, let alone on such a special occasion. I’m still in complete shock that there is an establishment that exists and operates this way. Totally understand that mistakes happen but every opportunity they had to make it better they made it worse! By the way this was handled I’m certain this wasn’t a one off situation, and I want people to be aware. I should have stuck to the 1Hotel like I had originally planned, and they will be getting my business when I’m in NYC from now on. Please do yourself a favor and just stay away from here, especially if it’s a once in a lifetime event with time you can’t ever get back.

This was the most “unpopular” restaurant and top rudest staff in NYC. What was suppose to be a beautiful & overtop brunch for our bride who was getting married turned into our worst nightmare.
We had a reservation at 10:15am. We noticed the restaurant only had one family (group of 3) seated so we thought to ourselves this is going to be a great intimate & quiet brunch. Little did we know, the host sat us in a section where staff does not attend to even though we were told to be seated at the section.
We sat at 10:16am and weren’t served until 11:31am with coffees. They have messed up the order as well, followed by entrees that came out 15 mins later with half of the table entrees that were messed up as well.
When we addressed these issues in a polite manner, we received the complete opposite from the manager, Eddie along with the male host who completely outraged on us.
The bride was so upset and we are completely devestated with this service along with the hotel service and how they manage customer success & hospitality. They made the YOTEL is Times Square look like the Ritz Carlton & The Peninsula Hotel.
We will forever stay away from this property and we do recommend for others who are hosting special occasions to spend your money elsewhere!

I wish I could review the food but that would have meant we got served at all. The worst service I have ever experience, rude staff especially the manager Eddie who could not care less that we waited over an hour and a half before we even got served a coffee in an almost entirely empty restaurant. Unfortunately I did not get the name of the male host who sat us in the wrong section apparently and then proceeded to be rude to my friends and I after we inquired why we waited over an hour and a half and did not receive anything we ordered. Zero explanation other than we were at the wrong table (that they told us to sit at) and had to speak to 4 different people before any compensation was offered. Luckily one woman working there seemed to care and was respectful and accommodating and helped us leave after almost 2 hours and only ever receiving 2 of the four meals we ordered. This service is on par with what we saw during the rest of our stay at the Public hotel. Spend your money elsewhere.

The best Peruvian restaurant in NYC What amazing surprise for this beautiful and hidden restaurant in New York. One of the vest Peruvian foos ever tasted including Lima city. I highly recommend the duck for main course and octopus. For starters Scallops and Ceviche.
No stars!!
Came here on August 16,2025 Saturday afternoon for a 2:30PM reservation. Arrived at the restaurant desk at 2:38PM. There's no receptionist at the desk except for a male staff that came by. We notified him of our 2:30pm reservation, he went to the back and came back and told us that they can't accommodate us since it's already 2:38pm.
We were late for 8 minutes!!! He told us if we wanted to speak with the manager. The manager should be the one explaining it to us in the first place.
I'm absolutely disappointed since this is my birthday treat for my best friend.
To the management of Popular, please review your policies and your reservation times! DON'T ACCEPT 2:30PM RESERVATIONS then if you can't accommodate them if they are even a few minutes late!

We went for birthday. if you bring a birthday cake, they charge you $50 to just store it in the fridge and open it for you
Located inside a hotel, popular is a beautifully decorated oasis. The food was amazing. Definitely get the oysters! So yum. The portions are very small for the price of the items. Drinks were great and strong

Great atmosphere, for some reason pretty empty on a Saturday night. Fantastic pisco drinks. Enjoyed the oysters, ceviche (creamy one less so) and chow mein

The ceviche were delicious. We had to ask to change table as our initial table was right under the loud speakers. We ordered a lot of
Items from the menu, everything was average asides from the ceviche and the tamarind cocktails. We enjoyed the decor with all the plants.
