Very small shop, they use every inch. So many bags of coffee beans. They will grind for you. Also coffee by the cup is available. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
One of those beautiful old New York establishments where you just walk in and can feel the shops soul because of the deep care that went in over time through past generations.
Love going here to just inhale the aroma of coffee and picking out a nice blend! This time I asked for a specific blend and they offered me to sample it, which I thought was so lovely.
They have so many options both when it comes to coffee and tea.
Can get a bit crowded as it is small. The Bleecker Street location is bigger which I prefer.
I genuinely believe Porto Rico is the best to do it in the East Village, maybe even the city overall. I’m no stranger to wholesale stores like this one but it is consistently the best coffee I taste around my neighborhood. You can tell they care about EVERYTHING—good service, good coffee, and a good experience overall. The staff are so nice, especially Adriana, Pam, Santiago, Emilia (I hope I’m spelling these all right). I work at a bakery two blocks over and we purchase their matcha to sell. Everytime I’m in there it’s a great time and we are always delighted by their coffee/matcha/friendliness. Their merch is great too, and the assortment of mugs. The manager is very caring and kind. Go visit Porto Rico you will not regret it I promise!
Really good coffee! 👏👏👏
The staff is amazing, extremely helpful and coffee is best in town.
I don't know if we just caught this place when the barista was having a bad day or what, but there was absolutely zero interaction for getting our drinks and the barista taking our order seemed very out of it.
Our drinks (cappuccino and matcha) were scorching hot, I'm sitting here 15 minutes after receiving it and I still can't take a sip because it will burn my mouth. The matcha was drinkable and probably one of the worst we've had.
For how well reviewed this place was, I was really excited to try a renowned coffee roaster in NYC but I left very disappointed and saddened with the experience and drinks.
I loved how the place looked and the variety of beans you could take home, and that's about it.
I do not recommend a stop here based on my experience, undoubtedly the worst coffee shop I've been to in the city.
I have been going to this coffee shop for over a decade, and it has always been lovely. Firstly, the aroma of the coffee and the coffee beans sourced from every place imaginable and truly roasted to perfection is simply unmatched. The magical ambience of this tiny shop, which is over 100 years old, with its bags of beans, cute little products, and usually very kind workers makes it a local gem! I once forgot the take a bag of coffee I had purchased, but the lady who sold it to me just kept it and I was able to pick it up the next day without an issue. Their brewed coffee is necessarily hit or miss, because they always change the flavours they serve (they always have three flavours: usually, a medium roast, though it varies, an organic roast (usually dark, I think), and a decaf), but that makes it a great opportunity to try before you buy! I really appreciate that they use high-quality almond and oat milks for their non-dairy options.
A teensy tiny cool old NYC coffee joint to grab a cup to go or sip on the cute red bench outside. I buy a bag of ground coffee here every couple of weeks and it's always good stuff and fairly priced. Nice staff.
Ideal espresso place(cute red chairs in the front
0/10 for the coffee and wish I could give this place 0 stars for "food". I hate wasting food and drinks but this was probably the first coffee I've ever had to toss out + BY FAR the worst I've had in NYC. I immediately winced at the first sip. There was an off-putting sour and chemical taste. I'm not sure if this was from the coffee beans or the skim milk they used. The coffee was also chalky and had a strange mouth feel. Will be avoiding this place going forward.

The place is very interesting, I liked its design, the smell of coffee is what attracts you to the place, it's like it invites you to come in, but terrible service, zero courtesy, zero empathy, it's the second time I've bought, I don't think it's the language, because NYC is about tourism itself, the first time I said... ok... it wasn't that dramatic, but this second time... noo... how uncomfortable... they treat you with contempt, maybe they have their own clientele, but that's what a business is for: winning over customers, wherever they are from. Sorry, that's my feeling, the coffee is spectacular, you can't deny it.

The only appropriate coffe to grab in the East Village. My dad has been going here for years for his chicory and beans. The staff are always kind, helpful, and patient. Shout out to the manager Jenny and the great staff like Santiago, Hailey, and Amber.

Unpretentious to-go coffee Mecca for no-nonsense high quality coffee from all over. The store is a motley assortment of everything in the coffee world: beans, bags, equipment, cups, etc., There’s one bench outside, so unfortunately jot a place you can hang out (thankfully Tompkins Sq Park is a 5 min walk away). Drip coffee is solid. Balanced, and nothing special, but I appreciated the variety of options (a medium/light roast, a dark roast, a flavored roast). Wish they offered pour overs! Drip coffee score: 4/5. Everything else score: 4.5/5. Overall score: 4/5.
Yummy latte and awesome beans, been coming to this particular location for years. Love it, highly recommended for just a cup of coffee or coffee beans for home/gift idea. Awesome service, smells amazing in there and a/c on blast felt great in the hot summer afternoon. Loved the 90’s nostalgic alternative music in the background too
