Ideal espresso place(cute red chairs in the front
0/10 for the coffee and wish I could give this place 0 stars for "food". I hate wasting food and drinks but this was probably the first coffee I've ever had to toss out + BY FAR the worst I've had in NYC. I immediately winced at the first sip. There was an off-putting sour and chemical taste. I'm not sure if this was from the coffee beans or the skim milk they used. The coffee was also chalky and had a strange mouth feel. Will be avoiding this place going forward.

The place is very interesting, I liked its design, the smell of coffee is what attracts you to the place, it's like it invites you to come in, but terrible service, zero courtesy, zero empathy, it's the second time I've bought, I don't think it's the language, because NYC is about tourism itself, the first time I said... ok... it wasn't that dramatic, but this second time... noo... how uncomfortable... they treat you with contempt, maybe they have their own clientele, but that's what a business is for: winning over customers, wherever they are from. Sorry, that's my feeling, the coffee is spectacular, you can't deny it.

The only appropriate coffe to grab in the East Village. My dad has been going here for years for his chicory and beans. The staff are always kind, helpful, and patient. Shout out to the manager Jenny and the great staff like Santiago, Hailey, and Amber.

Unpretentious to-go coffee Mecca for no-nonsense high quality coffee from all over. The store is a motley assortment of everything in the coffee world: beans, bags, equipment, cups, etc., There’s one bench outside, so unfortunately jot a place you can hang out (thankfully Tompkins Sq Park is a 5 min walk away). Drip coffee is solid. Balanced, and nothing special, but I appreciated the variety of options (a medium/light roast, a dark roast, a flavored roast). Wish they offered pour overs! Drip coffee score: 4/5. Everything else score: 4.5/5. Overall score: 4/5.
Yummy latte and awesome beans, been coming to this particular location for years. Love it, highly recommended for just a cup of coffee or coffee beans for home/gift idea. Awesome service, smells amazing in there and a/c on blast felt great in the hot summer afternoon. Loved the 90’s nostalgic alternative music in the background too

A coffee haven
I hate to say this because it’s a cute, local and traditional place but their whole bean coffee is old and without aroma.
I WAS a regular customer until this morning. There is something wrong with the attitude with some of your team members. All I wanted was 2 coffees but instead I got attitude, eyes rolled at me and an overall miserable vibe. Why? Cause I wanted to pay?
I wanted a new punch card? I wanted it to be punched for the 2nd coffee I ordered? Sorry, to many great coffee shops in the east village, I prefer to visit businesses that value their customers.
Cheap and delicious!

One of my favorite places in all of nyc. Wonderful friendly staff. Great quality coffee. This place is an essential for any coffee loving New Yorker. I just wish they had a stamp/point card for buying coffee beans!!!

We love restocking our coffee beans from here. There’s plenty of variety and a pretty cool old school setup. Unfortunately our visits are usually soured by the aloof staff who can’t be bothered to go beyond the bare minimum service, with the exception of one staff member we’ve dealt with, Santiago, who was kind and really helpful explaining different roasts for us.

Live in the neighborhood and first time here. I came in on Saturday, December 23rd at 11:45am. There was a small line and once I got to the register, a young woman helped me. I told her I was looking for a holiday gift and asked her to pick any popular bean for me. I asked if she could put it in one of those boxes I saw gift wrapped by the window and she said it was a preset box. I asked two more questions about it and decided to get it but her demeanor was very cold and standoffish and the whole interaction felt like I was the one inconveniencing her and she seemed visibly annoyed with me and slightly condescending. I bought it anyway and of course no thank you or smile or any words from her at the end of it. Actually I was the one to say thank you to her. Probably won’t come back and staff need to be friendlier to customers or at least at baseline not rude.

An Unfortunate sign of the times. The Brooklyn store was closed, and I recently stopped to buy a couple of pounds of their Brazil Roast, but when I went to pay, I saw it was now $16.00 a pound. As a 30+ year customer, I'm disgusted at the raging price increases, and most without any other reason than GREED. What I loved about supporting Porto Rico was that it is a local roaster and not a corporate Starbucks nonsense. As a business owner, I'm cognizant of increasing operational expenses. However, what is the Return on Investment when customers are kept away by inconvenience and pricing? Or has the business reached the point of diminishing returns?Unfortunately, I can no longer support Porto Rico as Driving to the other island to buy beans is not cost-effective.$34 for two pounds of beans is unacceptable.
