This place has decent food but the customer service is the worst I have ever seen, so unprofessional. They messed up my order for second time and they didn’t even offer to deliver the right order to my address. I called and they told me to come back to the restaurant and they would change it.
Not even a refund since I have to go all the way back? I have never seen something like this before. Will never be going back. There’s a taco place right next to it and employees are way nicer, so I will be going there instead.
I don’t recommend anyone going here.

A hidden gem in East Harlem. I always go here for my tacos. So far they make the best Al Pastor tacos I have had in Manhattan. At a really affordable price of $3 per taco, it's a steal.
Edit: Left them with the above review 5 years ago as my last meal in NYC before I left for the Army. Came back for a quick visit today to find out their prices haven’t changed at all! Instead they got a bunch of cool upgrades - outdoor seating got cozier and now they take card payments. Also all these comments from embarrassing Americans that only speak the English language, well their biching just got granted because I walked into the restaurant today ordering in Spanish and they responded back to me in English.

Located on East 116th Street in Spanish Harlem is a locally owned Mexican restaurant.
As I was passing by, these two sidewalk billboards caught my eye and I had to give this eatery a try.
This cost effective deal includes three tacos and a 12 ounce can of soda.
Tacos: Each taco is sprinkled with onions, cilantro in a soft taco shell with a lime and horseradish on the side. It comes with a protein of your choice.
Smother your tacos with red sauce or green sauce; the choice is yours.
12 Ounce Soda: I washed my meal down with a refreshing can of cola. If you do not wish to have this type of drink, many other 12 ounce cans are available.
For a small dining area, the interior is adorned with lots of Spanish wall art. There is also a variety of decorations hanging from the ceiling.
I had a great meal for a great deal. What more can you ask for?
I walked into Dona Matey Tacos expecting food — instead, I got a front-row seat to blatant discrimination. The woman at the register smiled, joked, and spoke warmly in Spanish to every Hispanic customer ahead of me. When it was my turn? Stone-cold silence. No greeting. No acknowledgment. Nothing.
I asked for steak tacos — she looked me dead in the eye and said they had nothing I asked for. At a taco place. No steak. No apology. No respect. Just the clear message: “We don’t serve people like you.”
This isn’t just bad service — it’s targeted and intentional. If you believe in fairness, dignity, or basic human decency, don’t spend a single dollar here.

The food was tasteless including the carnitas quesadilla and the chicharrón gordita, otherwise the huarache was ok, the meat portions are small although the Agua Fresca was good, I don’t recommend this place ;)

Where I see Mexican food I always like to try, I could say that it is one of my favorites, I stopped at this place I saw a very striking combo that for only 10.3 delicious tacos and a soda the food is very delicious.
PS: When I asked the person receiving the cashier what they had and she told me everything, I told her to make me 3 but apparently I made her feel very uncomfortable by choosing 3 tacos of different meats, I noticed it on her face and I often told her I asked what if something happened, what if she got uncomfortable? And I told him that if it's difficult, then give them to me the combo of what he had at that moment to make it easier for him. In the end I think that if he's a little lazy then he shouldn't mention all the varieties they have, Because I am not Mexican and others will always want to try different things, not something specific. Successes 🤚🫂

The quesadillas al pastor are very good. I've been several times and the taste is super good. I recommend the sauce they offer at the establishment with caution because it is very spicy.
