My partner and I visited Rebel over the weekend based on all the great reviews we read and unfortunately, our experience was mediocre. We started off with a couple cocktails and ordered our entrees right away.
The Rebel punch was pure alcohol, we couldn’t taste the mango or the cranberry juice; just pure alcohol.
Although my entree was edible, there was nothing authentic about it. The red bean sauce was maybe served in a 4oz ramekin and it was completely watered down. (again nothing authentic about it)
The icing on the cake was the automatic 20% gratuity. The server brought the drinks and the food, not once she came over and checked if we needed more water, drinks or to even see if everything was ok with our entrees.
We won’t return and won’t recommend.

I’ve visited Rebel twice in the past two months, and overall, it’s a great spot with a cozy atmosphere, a nice Haitian vibe, and delicious food. The "Tour of Haiti" is a must-try, especially the green plantains, akra, and griot they're definitely highlights!

However, the seating arrangement is a bit of an issue. The tables are seated so close together that it became difficult to hear my friend. We practically had to compete with the customer next to us who was speaking loudly, making it hard to enjoy a conversation.

I also ordered the salmon, but I’m not sure why the waiter mentions that it’s “market price” when it’s clearly listed on the menu you scan. I found the salmon to be overly salty, so I didn’t reorder it on my second visit.

Another downside is the service. While the staff is friendly, the waiter repeatedly interrupts your conversation, asking “Is everything okay?” or “Do you need anything else?” at least five times within a five-minute window, which feels excessive.

Lastly, the pickle on the side didn’t impress me it had an overwhelming amount of vinegar.

Overall, it’s a great place to visit, but when it’s at full capacity, having a conversation can be challenging due to the close seating and frequent interruptions.

I really wanted to love this place. I eat out a lot so I know what’s what.
I traveled from Ct, with a large party, 11 of us to be exact. Celebrating a birthday. Restaurant is small and gets very packed. I think they’ve outgrown this space. I love that for them.
However it would probably be best to stop serving food at a certain time and just cater to the people enjoying the bar and DJ. I didn’t like that my food surfed the crowd to get to me. I feel like the fact that our party is so large and it’s very late, we’re missing that wow factor in flavor. The food is just OK. My husband is Haitian so I know what’s what. Also the door keeps opening and we are sitting right here.Very inconvenient it’s 30 degrees out. I would give here a second chance if I’m out this way. I traveled 90 mins and a little disappointed.

One of my top 5 places to eat is all time!!! The food is so delicious I wish I could have the chef cook at all the places I eat in. Three look, the design, and the art are all amazing. And the service is top notch. Thank you, Rebel! 🖤🖤🖤

I’m Haitian and VERY picky about Haitian food and how it tastes. I can honestly say this is the best Haitian food I’ve had from a restaurant hands down. From the textures to the flavors, everything was 10s across the board. I got the griot entree with black rice and the griot literally melted in my mouth and was full of flavor. My boyfriend got the goat (stewed) with black rice and he will not shut up about how delicious it was. I wish they were in new jersey. I’d go every other day!

The food was amazing! tasting just like authentic Haitian food back home! They have most of the great Haitian dishes, and everything was on point. I was there with three friends, including one from Europe, and she was blown away, saying, ‘Wow, this food is so good!’ She tried the griot with du riz djonjon and loved it. I highly recommend this restaurant. If you’re ever in New York, make sure to stop by!

Kreyòl Punch: Strong !! Very good !!
Pangotini: Cutesy and great flavor.
Rebel Wings (Spicy Jerk): Great flavor!! True Jerk!!
Rebel Salmon: Well prepared and plated.
Kreyòl Chicken: Ok. Chicken was a little old. The flavor and mushroom rice were amazing.

I stopped by a couple weeks ago during a layover in nyc and I just have to commend rebel for this beautifully put together place. Location, flavor, atmosphere is perfect. Definitely on the pricey side would suggest more affordable options on the menu. But I loved it, I’m planning to come to nyc again with friends to explore more!

As a Haitian born and raised, I was shocked how my girlfriend and were welcomed to a restaurant I was so impatient to try out. The 3 star rating is due to service and the "legim" dish.
1) We entered an empty restaurant and the waitress couldnt sit us anywhere better than in a corner of the restaurant. I wouldnt mind if the restaurant was full and only the corner was available. This is not HAITIAN WAY OF TREATING GUESTS.
2) The "legim" was a 7/10 taste-wise

This place has some pretty hood Haitian food. I ordered the djon djon with the chicken and it was delicious. My fiancé tried the djon djon rice for the first time and he liked it a lot. The prices were a bit high. I’ve never paid $30 for chicken and rice before so that was a shock for me but overall good food, good vibe and authentic Haitian food.
