Russ & Daughters is a busy and popular Jewish deli style location that has many fishes, bagels, and other deli goodies to take home. They have a famous "black and white" cookie that you can take with you. If you're coming in for just a baked good and not the fish options, you can normally talk to the guys behind the counter directly instead of taking a ticket and waiting in the usually long lines. They also have a cafe a couple blocks away in case you want to try their fares in a sit-down restaurant.

I visited the store several times during my travels, and there was always a line in front of the store, so I went right when it opened. I had eaten the smoked salmon bagel at Essa Bagel, and at the time, I thought it was something like that, but this restaurant's classic bagel & lox sandwich was far more delicious. I think it's probably the freshness and saltiness of the smoked salmon, but now that I think about it, Essa's salmon tasted like a snack from alcohol and was a little too salty. It's very balanced here. I added tomatoes, onions, and capers ($1.50) for about $22 including tax and 10% tip. You'll have to wait in line at a famous store, but I think it's worth it.

Sesame beagle with cream cheese, spring onions, freshly sliced salmon and capers!! Really delicious and rather unknown for us Europeans!! We found it very tasty and the taste was fantastic
I didn't try their sandwiches or bagels but they look interesting. Would like to try them next time or go to their cafe down the street and eat there, if I have time to sit.I couldn't eat any of their chocolate covered foods because they have milk in them, which was a bit disappointing.I could eat the halvah, which I enjoyed, but not sure I'd get it all the time. Getting the smaller serving of the halvah was a good call. The Turkish Delight was unique and interesting and enjoyable. The matzo ball soup to go was decent. Not sure if it was great compared to other matzo ball soups, as my experience is limited. I would ask if I should add it to water when I get it home next time, if I get it.I found the tsimmes too sweet. I also prepare my own fruit at home, and it was a little worse than the stuff I prepare because it was so sweet. The brown sugar they add is just overkill. It would send your blood glucose through the roof and make you feel very tired afterwards, so best to avoid that option if you don't have the self control to eat it over the course of a day or multiple days to not spike your blood sugar. But even still, I make a better fruit mix at home.

It's a tourist trap on weekends but it's the best spot to go on an off peak time.

Good for tourists without being a tourist trap (which I define as any place that's not awesome in it's own right). I say this because Tuesday I was definitely the bumbling tourist, even carrying my luggage into the cramped shop (I do not recommend this) and everyone was more than friendly and understanding. The bagel and lox were spectacular, and it was fun to peruse all the other products on offer.
