Sala Thai is not just consistent, they're good! They've got classic dishes that always hit the spot and somehow their more inventive or traditionally Thai dishes are always perfectly executed. I've only had to ask for soy sauce once but that's more a personal preference than anything. Great place to bring out of towners, but also just a great spot to have in your rotation. Sala Thai is a neighborhood gem with consistently good food, attentive service, and enriching ambience (except for the side room which is not pleasant in my opinion). I love the curries, soups, and salads but their pad thai is not my favorite.
The stunning decor here seduced me into thinking that the food would be a spectacular journey of the senses. Mistakenly. Some dishes were stunningly presented. None had the luscious and exotic flavors you'd expect from an excellent Thai restaurant. Everything was bland. While the ingredients were respectably fresh, and the use of garnishes and flourish amusing to the eye, there was little to amuse the palate.
