AUTHENTIC Japanese home food.Sweet family that runs the place. I was a regular and they made me feel like I was a part of their family.I assume bad reviews are from people who did not understand what they were ordering. There are some things that require an acquired taste such as Natto.Sometimes authenticity can be too foreign for certain people, but it doesn’t mean they should write bad reviews..I’ve had everything on the menu and it was all amazing, traditional Japanese comfort food.Best Miso soup I’ve ever had, and some of the best bentos I’ve had outside of Japan.

Great food and didn’t take long at all

The tried to charge me $1 for an extra scoop of spicy mayo after I already paid $14 for their bento (which they microwave.) I get food from here 2x a week on my lunch break and have never had an issue asking for a little extra on the side but the older woman today kept insisting I pay $1. For a spoonful? No ma’am.I like the food, but that was just such a d*** thing to to demand. There are plenty of better places to go, not sure I’ll keep eating here.

Got their beef curry, it was absolutely delicious!

I had the Pork Katsu. The pork was very tough, especially for paying $15. I wish I had read the other reviews on here before going. This place isn't good, I recommend avoiding.

Chicken nanban bento is the best

This was a nice little gem that I found in the canal street market. My benchmark for a quick curry meal would be go go curry in the city. This is why it gets 4 stars instead of 5.

Had the curry rice bowl with "fried chicken". I imagined juicy crispy Japanese fried chicken, hot and crunchy. It was none of those things except juicy, as the chicken had been fried a few days ago, and then steamed to get warm. So, a slimy wet piece of chicken with mushy skin. Over rice drenched with mediocre curry. Like most places at Canal Market: mediocre and overpriced. Well, this was worse than mediocre. It was disgusting.

Their fried chicken is steamed. Food is not good and overpriced. Don’t go here.

Excellent food at a great price. I had the beef sukiyaki rice bowl and would highly recommend it.

The food is authentically Japanese and the staff is friendly and professional. Their chicken nanban is a must-try. Also, where else in SoHo are you going to find ochazuke? Summer or winter, hot or cold, they have something on their menu for every occasion. This has been my regular lunch spot for over a year. 10/10 would recommend.

Really under appreciated spot (in my opinion)

Delicious food at The Canal Street Food Market! Their chicken nanban bento is my favorite dish and wonderful.

Got the Dan Dan, which was essentially a mix of ground beef, rice, seaweed, Benito flake and hot water. Not quite sure what the intended effect was supposed to be but I didn't get/ understand it. Did not finish and will not repeat.
