Enjoyed the meal very much. It’s mostly tempura (about 8 pieces), but there were 3-4 non-tempura dishes. Great ambiance and service!

Unique and memorable dinner experience. Probably the friendliest and most hospitable service I’ve seen in NYC. Expensive but imo worth it. Great choice for special occasions.

Amazing intimate tempura omakase experience from start to finish. Considering how small the restaurant is, the reservation only dining, and the attention to detail and to patrons, the pricing is more than fair. Came to celebrate husbands birthday and Daiimu, our waiter was nothing short of giving us the best experience. My husband really enjoyed ten-don in Japan and nothing we had in the US could compare until this experience. All tempura were lightly and perfectly fried. It’s a long meal yes but it’s because you’re supposed to enjoy the meal as well as the company.

Highly recommended and hoping to return in the future.

I’ve lived in NYC for over a decade and been to my fair share of omakases and Michelin star meals. Secchu Yokota is special and will always have a place in my heart, it’s truly unlike any other restaurant in that the staff is so warm and welcoming you feel like you actually went to a dinner party. The food is delicious, seasonal vegetables and items fried to perfection. I highly recommend you opt for the Wagyu add on if you’re going! It’s perfectly cooked and so melty. I need to bring more of my friends here, but this is a wonderful place to celebrate with your loved ones intimately and it truly feels like you’ve traveled to Tokyo’s suburbs.

Intimate and unique dining experience with amazing food combining Japanese and French cooking techniques with attentive and friendly front of house staff. The first course was like art in a museum, while others are simple yet full of flavor, and everything we ate was delicious. The restaurant only has a handful of counter seats and the entire meal is prepared by a single chef who cooks and plates every course in front of you. Chef was intently focused on cooking and didn’t speak to us during the meal but his wife (the maitre d’) and server provided very warm service. You will feel like family.

It's a trek into alphabet city to get to this place, and in contrast to the more rowdy parts of the neighborhood, this place has a cozy, serene feel. The service here is top notch, and the food is quite good too. Interestingly, one of our favorite dishes of the night was actually one more simpler ones: the soba noodles. There were 8 tempura courses, and they do not skimp on the courses, with items such as uni, Hokkaido scallop, shrimp, and eel. We paid a bit extra for the wagyu conclusion dish, which was quite enjoyable, although I would have preferred something other than the roasted tomato, which was a bit too juicy, and mixed with the steak, despite my efforts to keep them separated. The waiter, Daim, is a gem and makes everyone feel at home.

Visited at the recommendation of a friend, and could not have been more happy with the experience. All the various courses were delicious, with some of my favorites being the scallop, sweet potato, and shrimp. The waiter during our visit was very friendly and would provide recommendations on how to enjoy each course. He also loves anime and he even showed us some of the fanarts he drew!

Overall, this was a very special experience and I'd definitely visit again whenever I travel to NYC again.

Cozy small intimate restaurant. We went expecting sushi omakase but it was mostly tempura dishes. Tempura was the best tempura I’ve had but I generally don’t like tempura so it was disappointing. I didn’t read the reviews carefully or else I would have known it was tempura. It’s $145 for omakase, after tip and taxes about $200. But the food would have been amazing for someone who loves seafood tempura and the service was impeccable!

I am sorry, I have to be honest here. I seen negative reviews here and I ike to share my honest feedback. I been going to Tempura Matsui and seeing 5 stunning reviews, I had to come here for the first time.
1. The kitchen is small and not clean. They turn their dishwasher constantly when customers are eating. It bothers a lot.
2. The chef is a huge fan of plastic to go containers. Why ? Can't you use glass containers?
3. I saw the chef adding tap water to the batter. That was the most disgusting I ever seen. NY tap water is fine but I was expecting them to use distilled water at least.
4. Oil change. I seen the chef using a stainer to get rid of something. So he is clearly not using a fresh batch for the day. Food is okay but it's way too overpriced. It's not crispy and I would prefer Tempura Matsui as they use fresh oil and fresh ingredients. The place is way more neat and clean.
5. Service. Yes the waiter is super friendly. It's very Japanese. Some people may find it offensive and creepy but that's Japanese style. If you don't like it then don't come.
6. We had to sit in the back for the dessert. They probably need time to clean up the table for next guests. But no please let them stay and don't move to the back. I want to mingle but not everyone wants to talk to next guests. Since the place doesn't have any ventilation system, I could smell the food, cooking oil, cleaning detergent and just everything.

We were so fortunate to discover Secchu. Dining at Secchu is an experience. The best dining experience we've had. Living in Vancouver, a major hub of Japanese restaurants and traveling to Japan Seechu is number one.
Having the two owners and founders, one a master Japanese chef and his wife serving is precious. The explanation of each dish has a story.
I will always dream about Secchu Yokota. This restaurant is a gift.

I've been a fan of Secchu Yokota since I first found it in 2017, and it never disappoints. This place does omakase-style tempura and uses top-notch ingredients from around the world, so everything always tastes extremely fresh.

My favorite part is the scallop—it's always perfectly tender. And their wasabi salt is so good, I always ask for extra. The portions are just right, leaving you satisfied but not stuffed, and the timing of the dishes is spot on, making the whole meal really enjoyable.

They have an amazing sake selection, and the staff are super friendly and attentive, which makes the experience even better. Watching the chef cook right in front of you adds a special touch.

Secchu Yokota has kept up its high standards over the years, so I keep coming back. If you love great tempura and a classy dining vibe, you have to check this place out.

This small restaurant was the highlight of my trip to New York. Secchu Yokoya delivers on every aspect of a truly exemplary dining experiece. It is not often that food leaves me with a loss of words, but this restaurant from its ingredients to its service and atmosphere have left me with memories that I am sure to have for my lifetime.

Our tasting menu consisted of 8 seasonal tempura dishes and 4 other unique dishes. The masterful preparation and high quality fresh ingredients made each course unique and perfect each in their own special way, as if taken on a journey to Japan, each course a new adventure to a hidden attraction never experienced before.

The restaurant has a small kitchen, partially enclosed by 6 seats such that diners can watch the chef cook and plate each course. With only two staff members, one chef and one everything else, they create an atmosphere that is seldom found in the busiest city in the world.

Each course is presented personally by the waiter, who showed impeccable knowledge, professionalism, and passion. The waiter explained what each dish is, and offered recommendations on how to best enjoy its flavours with provided condiments.

I came to New York to visit New York attractions. You know, places like Times Square and food like big burgers and pizza. But there is a lot more to New York City than what appears on the surface.

The experience was well worth the price and I am grateful to have found and dined at Secchu Yokota. I look very forward to my next visit.
