went in on Saturday evening; the food was decent and the dumplings were exceptional; the staff were friendly and the service was quick

Horrible customer service, food for take out tasted old like left over. When complaint to restaurant , nothing is resolved, they told their customers not to eat here or order again! I would not recommend this restaurant

I have bad experience with them last time. The takeout i order are not fresh. The rice is spoiled. I went to the restaurant to tell them about it. The female boss denied any wrong doing. She even yell at me. I will never come back again.

I’ve been to many of the old Chinatown haunts since moving to the area a few years ago and this is going to become THE spot for pan fried Shanghai noodles. Wow. So good. The pork soup dumplings are also stellar.

The food was not that good, they add tips to the bill without consulting, they sell expensive

The food was good. Really big portions, and not expensive at all. Some of the dishes are quite good. The lobster rice cake, and chestnut chicken are great. Pork belly and pine nut whole fish were ok. The Xiao Long Bao was really mediocre. The place looks wore down and needed cleanup and renovation.

I went to this restaurant today and the food was pretty mid. The frozen soup dumplings I eat at my grandma's house (I'm Chinese) is better than this. The skin was too thick and after letting the soup dumplings sit for around five minutes the skin at the top of the dumpling was already hard. Additionally, I believe the customer should decide how much tip to give. I went with my friends and we tipped more than 15% but the waitress came over and insisted that we tip them 18% AFTER tax. It's a given that you always tip before tax and in any case we tipped them more than 15%, maybe around 16% when you do the math. When we explained to her that it was already more than 15%, she took the receipt and wrote her own tip of $6.50 and then charged our card. The audacity of this worker to write their own tip is actually insane. She should've been glad we gave any tip at all. Anyways! I won't be going back there anymore and as someone who grew up in Chinatown, I can tell you there are so many better Shanghainese restaurants out there.

Food took forever to come out (other people who ordered long after us got their food first) and when we only left a $10 tip and they took extra money from the change and told us it was a 15% tip minimum (considering the service, they were lucky we even left a tip).

The sauerkraut and fish tasted too earthy. It was clearly not for one person but they ordered it as one for one person. This was a dishonest business. The fried rice only tasted like soy sauce and also contained three-color beans. It was totally unacceptable.

Shanghai Heping restaurant located in Chinatown New York will deliver a good Chinese gastronomical experience for sure. The place seats conveniently close to subway stations and is easily accessed. Prices are very reasonable. Food tastes fantastic. The individual meals are generous and may feed 2 with moderate appetite. Staff communicates very basic in English but enough to mutual understanding. Definitely a place to check whenever in Chinatown vicinity. Good experience, keep up the good food!

They made me and my friends think that the fried rice was included in our dishes but then charged us for them. Also their “mandatory” tipping policy has gone a little too far. The food itself was just average. Other restaurants nearby can make it better, honestly

The Chinese food tasted very authentic. It was also relatively cheap. In addition, there was no surcharge for tip, but you could determine the tip height yourself.
