I had an odd experience at the restaurant this past Sunday. I arrived alone at 6:00 p.m., and the place was mostly empty. The host informed me that they couldn’t seat me because they were booked for the night. This struck me as odd since OpenTable showed available tables every fifteen minutes. Only after I pointed this out did she let me sit down. However, she told me I could stay for only an hour due to other parties coming in. This would have been fine if my one order of sushi hadn’t taken 45 minutes to arrive. The food was very good, but when I finished paying, the place was still empty. I got the sense that they didn’t want to serve me. Something felt very off about the whole experience...

Long wait despite the fact I was alone at the sushi bar, no hot towels or sanitizer and WC is only on the upper floor. hand rolls are not something I want to try again.

Anne Hathaway did not spit in my food.

I'd never been seated at a genuinely full-fledged sushi/hand-roll bar before, so I'm glad this was my first experience on a quiet Thursday afternoon. I ordered the three-roll special, of yellowtail, spicy tuna, & salmon, all w/ the most interesting seasonings. The junmai ginjo sake I chose had a lightly bitter finish, making it pair perfectly w/ every hand roll; the spicier, the better. Great culinary outing!

This place specializes in hand rolls and unfortunately none of them were to my liking. They are very herb-forward in their flavor combos. I got the set of five hand rolls. If I had to choose a favorite it would be the salmon (ate too quickly and didn't get a photo- classic). Although I didn't like the hand rolls the service was great and it was a nice casual spot. I'd recommend workshopping the hand roll flavors a bit more.

Depending on the expectation, we hoped to eat some of the sushi rolls that we saw online but when we got there the many was totally different as we could see online. From my perspective the price vs quality was a little to overpriced. Nevertheless location is pretty good.

Amazing food, amazing service! We went for Bastille day and it was so fun. Enjoyed wine and had some crunchy sushi. The place is beautiful and we loved it. Will come back!

This place is absolutely amazing!!!! From our incredible waiter, René, to the chefs, food, ambiance… this place is the best Omakase experience I’ve been to in NYC yet! The food is spectacular on its own, and the quality and portion sizes are well worth the price. I highly recommend visiting at least once, and you must have the Miso soup - it is the most umami-filled situation I’ve ever experienced! 5 stars to this impeccable establishment, and a huge thank you for an unforgettable date night!

This used to be my go to place for the best sushi downtown Manhattan. The quality of the sushi, sashimi and rolls was impeccable, fresh, simple, tasty. It was like having sushi in Japan, you could taste the freshness of the fish and the mastery of the rice preparation. The chef is Japanese and a true master. Today the menu became made of hand rolls. Let alone the fact that it is simply not easy to eat and I don't like to eat with my hands, they removed barbecue eal, which was unparalleled in taste as compared to any other places I tried.
The rolls tasted like tacos, too much onions, no simplicity, not enough fish, too much puffed rice which can break you a tooth if you are not too careful.
@JeanGeorge, you started a project which raised the bar really high in terms of gastronomy and service in New York. I can tell you are trying to make this project more profitable, but this is coming at a huge loss in the quality of gastronomy. I will not be coming back...
The service remains very good and the venue is still very well kept.

Quiet section of the Tin Building. Very intimate with the limited seating even if it is shared. Good quality and Fresh.

Dietary restrictions: I was able to give them a sheet with my allergies to food and the Chef made sure who in my party was allergic.

Kid-friendliness: If kids are able to sit at a table there are no problems.

Wheelchair accessibility: There are ramps into the Tin building and the restaurant is on the first floor. There is room to get around and place a wheelchair.

I am hoping this was an off night or something as most of our other Tin Building experiences have been pretty good. Two of our party had been here several times before and thought it was good too.

We ordered two appetizers, two Sushi sets, and Sashimi sets. The waiter made it clear each of the six items of each were a single piece. When it arrived, the sashimi was three types of fish with two pieces of each. The chef’s fish choices were salmon, raggedly cut, falling apart Hamachi, and slices of tuna that were still frozen in the middle.

The restaurant was not busy with many open seats, and one chef was not doing much. Yet we waited nearly 40 minutes between appetizers and and our main courses. The other members of our party had to wait even long er as they served us our sashimi and only then started to make sushi for the other two. We were done with sashimi before the sushi was served.

Our server asked about allergies several times at the beginning of the meal and we told them one of our party was allergic to shellfish. They served him shrimp anyways. When we said that was a no go they took it back, the chef took off the shrimp in front of us and offered the same plate back.

To their credit, when we asked for help, Shane, the manager, was very kind in listening to our issues and did an excellent job in helping ameliorate the situation.

I would add the chawanmushi, with uni as the seasonal topping, was very good and got is off on the right start. It was sad that it devolved from there.
