For starters, the food really was delicious. We had an entire feast and there wasn’t a single disappointment. Hot food was hot as intended, and the cold was cold. I would go back but only for a smaller meal with one or two courses max. Note, I’ve now been to all but one restaurant from this group and I would place it in the number two or three spot, after Shuka and either Vic’s or Rosie’s.
I’ve been trying to lock in a date while in NY for months and finally got a reservation by signing up immediately once the two-week window for my target opened up – I suggest you do the same. I overheard people at the door waiting over 90m for a table around 7:30p on the Friday we went.
I docked a star for the service because some dishes came out too early and overall I felt rushed by the pace, and that we had to focus more on consuming or moving food around to make room for the next dish than conversation or the food itself. We discussed the preferred coursing pattern w the server ahead of time and they almost got it right, but left no time between rounds as we had requested.
I docked two stars for ambiance because the music was trite (early 2010s pop radio) and even with a great corner window booth it still felt very crowded and stuffy. It was the dead of winter and with the heat pumping both my husband and I felt overwhelmed and had to step outside for fresh air at some point.
As for the food, again, it was excellent. Bear with me for a play by play since it was that good.
For starters, we (a group of four adults there just for a nice dinner to end our stay) got the fava and labneh with the flatbread, pita, and gfree crackers. The fava was very tasty to me but others didn’t like the turmeric spice level, and the labneh was a hit. The pita was over baked and had no softness (much better at Shuka) but the flatbread, lathered in herbs, oil, and sesame seeds really slapped. The crackers were sister-approved and had a sharp crunch with a mild sun-dried tomato flavor. We also requested the crudités and pickled veg as a starter and they were both top notch.
By this point we had already started getting hot dishes brought out and they made us feel rushed to eat faster, less than 20m into the meal (hadn’t even decided on drinks yet!).
The next course, which we paired with some overall very good spritz cocktails and a pleasing Lebanese Cinsault-Syrah red, started strong. The roasted cauliflower was a hit and generous on the hazelnuts, the winter chicory salad was fresh, crunchy, bitter and sweet with lots of nice toppings, and the broccolini was good but a little heavy with the nut/tahini paste and became cold as we focused on trying to consume the other dishes to make room on the table. The jeweled rice was generous and perfectly cooked.
The meats, which came out in series over the course of a total of about 40m, were all very good. The lamb skewer came first and was probably the best, with a super tender bite and delicate flavor atop a nice bed of stewed tomatoes and onions to share. The fish in a cage was well seasoned and nicely charred, and almost entirely deboned despite service with a head and tail - nicely done :) just look out for the smaller fin bones on the lower belly and the collar. The chicken looked great, mostly dark meat but very juicy and served with a strong garlic aioli that I personally really enjoyed (but others found too strong). The fish came out with a spicy parsley / chimichurri sauce and red pepper spread both of which I really enjoyed. They’re the same ones you can get at Shuka.
Overall, we were very satisfied (and full) and the total was around $370 including tax and tip. We were in and out in just under two hours, which to me is not enough time for the quantity of food we ordered. As mentioned, I would definitely go back but get fewer dishes for a group this size or order them in multiple stages to manage the pressure. It’d also be nice for a dat

I was excited to try Shukette for the first time, and while overall I liked it, I had some serious qualms.
1. We were seated in the shelter/shed area on a cold and windy night in January, and although there were heaters and blankets provided, it was seriously cold. A major distraction. I’m not sure why Shukette keeps this shed space open so many years after the pandemic, and if you make a reservation, I’d advise you specify you don’t want to be seated there.
2. I’ve been to a lot of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurants around the world, and I don’t think I’ve ever encountered one that charges separately for dips/mezze AND bread, let alone one that charges $12 or more for one small piece of pita or flatbread, not nearly enough to accompany the dips (which are excellent, although the labneh is a little too stiff). I’m not saying the breads aren’t good—they’re delicious! But there’s something off about this arrangement.
3. We were excited to try the house red, which was $52/bottle—by far the cheapest red on a pretty pricey list. And were told it wasn’t available. I find that odd—wouldn’t a restaurant have plenty of the house red on hand?
4. The “fish in a cage,” one of Shukette’s signature dishes, wasn’t…all that great. The marinade was applied a little too heavily and tasted caked on and underdone. It’s a flashy presentation but the actual fish was pretty banal.
Look, I’m not saying not to go. Most of the dishes were great. But overall it felt like an impersonal and rote presentation, way more uneven than I would have thought.
From the appetizers to the dessert, everything was fantastic. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

Very tasty. Great hummus, chicken. Wonderful delicato squash with labne and pomegranate. Very loud music, hard to talk. All apps come without bread need to order pita to eat hummus.

An absolutely amazing experience at shukette! The food is outstanding, so tasty, varied and mouth-wateringly good! The bread is to die for, as well as the chicken, broccoli and prawns! The menu is full of dishes that all looked so delicious, alongside a great drinks/wine menu! The service was fantastic, atmosphere is great and our dinner was faultless from start to finish! Would go back time and time again! Would definitely recommend a counter table and to anyone visiting NYC!

Loved loved loved it here. Got all our recommendations from our server, Faham, who was fantastic and had the best energy and taste.
Highly recommend the Labneh and the Frena. It was so fluffy and flavorful. Loved the fruit and floral gazoz, if I had to pick one to get again, I’d pick the fruit gazoz. The arctic char Kofta and Turkish Kebab and Steak Kebab were all amazing. The soft serve tahini was the perfect finishing touch. Can’t wait to go again!

Okay, listen up, Shukette. You’ve gone from “Oh wow, this is amazing!” to “Oh no, not again!” faster than I can say “overhyped hipster hotspot.” The chef deserves a standing ovation, no doubt, but honey, the dining experience needs a serious makeover—like, yesterday.
We’ve hit this joint three times, and it’s like watching a soap opera: the first episode was fabulous, the second was a snooze fest, and by the third, we were ready to flip the channel. The vibe has shifted from trendy eatery to “what is this, an assembly line?” Seriously, it felt more like an uncool, poorly designed cafeteria where everyone’s just trying to hustle their way to the nearest exit.
Let’s talk food: that chicken dish we once drooled over? It’s still decent, but the whipped garlic sauce? Girl, it’s been ghosting us. And while the labneh was solid, the other dip was as exciting as watching paint dry.
And the service? Let’s just say our server was clearly clock-watching, practically counting down the seconds to her weekend plans while we tried to savor our $210 meal in a rushed 39 minutes. They even had the audacity to swipe my drink before I’d finished—like, excuse me, I’m not done with my date yet!
So, if you're looking for a chill dining experience, you might want to keep this one off your list. It’s time to give Shukette the side-eye and say goodbye
Dietary restrictions: This is the only restaurant in our 10 years in NYC I can recall going to where the server did not ask us if we had dietary restrictions or allergies. We don't have any, but I think it speaks to the level of service.

Delicious food but absolutely horrible service… had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time for our table, only to then be greeted by an incredibly rude waitress who rushed us out and slammed our dishes on the table. We were in and out in <1 hour and I was hoping for a really special meal with my parents who were visiting.
