Got the famous $1 ham and cheese. I walked in behind a group of high school students who were counting out their dollars to see how many they could get. So the guy was cranking them out.
Totally no frills, ham, cheese, mayo, mustard. You can get it hot or cold, I went with hot and that was the right choice.
Guy was very kind and friendly, sandwiches were fast. And hit the spot especially for $1.
This is actually my second attempt at trying these ham and cheeses. The first time the shop was closed for whatever reason..... and if that happens to you, try the tent selling tacos down towards 2nd. That place was amazing.
Smashiess is staying on my map, and i wanna try other things from the menu. And if I miss them, then that taco tent is a solid backup plan.

Move over $1 slice, there's a new king and he's arguably better in every way. With the dollar slice now non-existent there is a power struggle for the go-to $1 meal. I'm here to tell you thats search is over, smashies has the solution. With a ham and American cheese smashed in between a roll with mayo for $1 all your hunger related problems are gone. Smashies should become an iconic destination for the hungry, frugal New Yorker. 5/5

Located in Spanish Harlem is a locally owned bodega.
Owner Smashiess introduced me to a few of the most popular menu items.
Ham & Cheese:
This hot pressed viral sandwich is a master piece.
It’s smashed and served on a roll.
If you like ham & cheese, you are going to love what’s next.
Hawaiian Burger:
The primary ingredients in this specialty burger are ham, cheese, and pineapple served on a sesame seed bun.
It may have a blue collar appearance, but the taste was white collar all the way.
Berry Ticker:
To finish the meal, I sipped a refreshing smoothie that was freshly blended with banana, blueberry, and strawberry.
It was ”berry” tasty.
The Dining area is limited, so I recommend taking your order to-go.
If you have a voracious appetitie, join the Smashiess Challenge. If you finish a 16 ounce burger in five minutes or less, you will be awarded a t-shirt, your photo will be posted on the store Wall of Fame as well as social media, and you will receive a full refund for the meal.
This location may be a hole in the wall, but all three menu items I explored were outstanding.

A neighborhood institution! For value and service, Smashiess is the place to go. Nothing fancy or pc and takeout only but for the money a tasty burger. Go midweek when the owner has time to talk because he is a great guy who has been serving the neighborhood for almost 40 years (17 in his present location)

Offering different rewards for the burger challenge based on gender—such as lifetime free food for women but not for men—is discriminatory and could be grounds for a lawsuit. The policy should be revised to ensure equal treatment for all participants.
free food for life for women who complete the burger challenge but not for men is real simp behavior, the women don't wanna touch you bro.
