The food was excellent, but the service could have been better. The initial server who served us was not very facilitative and welcoming. Instead, it was a second server who served us better, and even recommended a good martini for my wife.

We told the restaurant that it was our wedding anniversary and the staff recognised this on arrival. Our two servers Adam C who guided us though service and Brice who served were fantastic nothing was too much trouble. They made us feel extra special and really made our day

Dining at Smith & Wollensky was an outstanding experience. The steakhouse's classic, elegant exterior and warm, polished interior set the perfect tone for the meal. We started with fresh West Coast oysters, which were briny and delicate—a fantastic opener. The medium-rare filet mignon was tender and flavorful, perfectly paired with a fresh salad in a superb vinaigrette. A bottle of the house red wine added richness to the meal, complementing the steak without overpowering it. The service was exceptional—attentive and knowledgeable throughout. For top-tier dining with excellent food and service, Smith & Wollensky is a must-visit.

Outstanding even though many secret service were inside the place. We enjoyed a tour of the meat stage locker and wine storage room where we picked out a bottle of wine to go with dinner Once again a GREAT NYC experience for folks from the CA Bay Area

Our server, Dennis Chen, was excellent. Hubby and I had the oysters and scallops as starters and they both were delicious. We both had the 8oz fillets and they were cooked to perfection. Best steak we've had in a long time. Melt in your mouth with some lovely charry crust. We also had the lobster tails and they were delicious. We would highly recommend this steakhouse.

This timeless restaurant sets a standard above anything normal. Truly amazing meal, as always. Travelling the World over the last 40+ years Smith and Wolensky's is as good as it gets. Since my first visit in March 1994 they have always delivered and in their words ended all arguments. Thank you!!!!

Other than it being extremely loud— totally amazing. The food was great and reasonably priced. I recommend the lobster tail and onion rings!

To commemorate the day of birth of my lovely partner, I wanted to book us a nice dinner to finally check off her Andy Sachs dream, now over a decade in the making. Was pleasantly surprised to learn about their weekend wine dinners (reservations after 8 PM, $95 pp as of time of this review)! And all my expectations continued to be absolutely blown away. The wine dinner includes a prefix menu with choices of one app, main, dessert, and choice of bottomless wine. While there were optional add-ons and "premium" cuts of meat, the included options did not feel watered down or cheap. Our combined order included 6 oysters, 6 clams, the hangar steak, filet mignon with truffle au poive, potato gratin (+$15 extra), a coconut cake with mango ice cream, chocolate ganache cake, and the cabernet. What really made my partner's birthday special was the service and personal touch we received. The evening started with a complimentary glass of prosseco when we arrived early for our reservation, and the barkeep kindly offered us a second pour right as we were called to our table (tip your service workers y'all, then bring up our abysmal labor standards with the state). Our table was waited on by Edwin and Brice, who were so friendly, attentive, and personable, all the little acts of care throughout our meal put such a look of joy on my partner's face (人*´∀`)。*゚+ Edwin himself finished the sauce in the dining room on a portable cooktop with the flames and all. Then the staff intercepted me on the way back from the restroom to make sure they had my partner's name right. On top of all that, they conducted the room in singing happy birthday and brought out my partner's original dessert order on the house! We walked up and thanked Alex the manager and Edwin on the way out, only for Alex to direct us to leave our bags with the host stand and follow him on a quick behind the scenes peak at the wine cellar and dry aging locker, all while my partner recounts her Devil Wears Prada dreams to this man. According to her, best birthday ever. 5 stars

TLDR: Prada experience and only semi-Prada prices. If your partner also loves that movie, this is the hype for you

Ever since I watched Andy Sachs pick up a juicy hunk of steak from Smith & Wollensky in The Devil Wears Prada, this restaurant had remained a formative part of my NYC dream for over a decade. I never thought I would get the chance to eat here, but my partner made this dream come true by booking us a reservation for the 8pm wine dinner for my birthday. Unbelievably, the TLDR is Smith & Wollensky exceeded expectations on all counts, and quickly rewrote the singular and underwhelming steakhouse experience I had at Morton's in 2016.

On the wine dinner experience ($95pp, Th-Sat after 8pm):
If you arrive a bit ahead of your reservation, then you can wait at the bar for a complimentary pour of prosecco or dry martini. IDK how the tip division works out with the fixed price wine dinners, but I always think it's courteous to tip your bartender at the bar. I recommend bringing some cash for tip if you get the complimentary drink.

The pre-fixe menu for the wine dinner is very generous for all courses, and the additional charges for extra sides are reasonable for the price range. We each got our choice of appetizer, steak/entree, dessert. At no point did it feel like the menu was limited or only consisted of non-premium selections. Together, we got the little-neck clams, oysters, truffle filet mignon, hanger steak, chocolate cake, and coconut creme cake with mango sorbet. We also ordered an additional side of loaded baked potato gratin, because we foolishly thought the steak portions would be smaller than we'd hoped. In fact, the steaks were were huge, and we ended up so full of food and wine that we packed up basically the entirety of the desserts and most of the potatoes to-go. Everything was delicious, and the wine kept on coming.

Edwin was our main server and we were also waited on by Brice, who were both amazing. Their service was professional and personable; we enjoyed the banter exchanged over the course of our meal! I am apparently the second person that has told Edwin about my Smith & Wollensky dream being a product of The Devil Wears Prada. Edwin was also the one who did the flambé of the truffle au poivre sauce for the filet mignon, which was so cool that I had to film it. Then, after Edwin took our dessert orders, he along with Brice et. al. came out and sang a big happy birthday to me, presenting me with an extra dessert topped with a candle! I was very excited for this but maybe it looked like I was crying because Edwin patted me on the back afterwards and said "I thought this would make you happy???" and I quickly reassured him that this was actually the best birthday ever. My partner told me that he was intercepted by the waiters when he was coming out of the bathroom, so that they could ask him for my preferred dessert option besides the two that we already picked. This is such a nice touch honestly, the atmosphere around our table was just so fun and I was happy to end it there after dessert...

But it wasn't the end yet! After we paid, we wanted to say thank you and goodbye to Edwin but we couldn't find him, so we asked a managerial looking fellow in a sharp suit if he knew where he was. The manager, Alex, brought Edwin out, and then asked if it was our first time at Smith & Wollensky ('yes, but it has been my dream for over a decade!'). He beckoned us downstairs and told us to leave our bags with the host stand. This man brought us to the wine cellar and put a crazy expensive bottle of wine in my hands (I think it was $13,000??? Or maybe it could have been $1300 honestly IDK I blacked out with shock either way I think). He told us some fun tidbits, and showed us one of his favorite wines from Napa Valley. THEN he took us to the dry age walk-in cooler, where I was surrounded by rows and rows of beef at various stages of aging. Never in my life did I think I would ever experience the beautiful smell of a dry-age cooler outside of a Youtube video or Netflix documentary. Ale

+++ to avoid this place: while we had a reservation, we had to wait almost 30 min to get our table. The hospitality was so unprofessional, disrespectful and really rude. Such ha shame for the owner and this restaurant... finally after almost 45 minutes not being served and being really badly treated, we left ... really shameful

Oh wow! What an experience. Born and raised in New York but this is always my favorite. Young Art is just the best waiter of his generation. And Tony is the waiter you dream of. Love this place. Best meal in New York!

I was truly impressed by the service provided by Art during my visit. He was incredibly attentive and made the entire dining experience feel special. Art had an amazing ability to anticipate our needs before we even had to ask, and his friendly, welcoming demeanor added so much to the overall atmosphere. He clearly takes pride in his work, ensuring every detail is perfect. Tony was also helpful and courteous, but Art's service really stood out. Thanks to him, we had a memorable time, and I'll definitely be returning for more!
