WOW. This is my new favorite spot for a quick and delicious soup! I got the chicken dumpling and it’s perfect. It tastes like something my grandma would make from scratch. And in the winter, with a 10-min walk back to the office, I opened it up and it’s still HOT.
The place is tiny. Like 10x10. A closet that only 3 or 4 people can fit in. There was a short line outside that moved quickly. Inside, it’s the quintessential little hidden NYC gem. No website and walking by if you blink you’ll miss it. The menu apparently changes each day but they had like 20 soup options today.
I paid about $11 for a large 16oz soup.
Based on my experience today, I would 100% recommend this place and I will be going back!

Don't blink because you'll miss it like we did..lol
Backtracked and found it!
Small place that fits 3 people at most and only take out, which is what we were looking for. We had the Lobster Bisque and The Roasted Red Pepper & Gouda Bisque. Both delicious! Pricing is about right for NYC and the area. Will definitely be back.

THIS is what a lunch spot is supposed to be. None of that corporate gruel.

I’m so sad. I’d love coming here but I gotta let it go after today because I found a baby roach in my soup. I almost threw up. So disgusting.

Ordered the clam chowder and the sandwich. 100% as expected, no complaints.
It’s a no frills spot, and is absolutely great at what it’s meant to be.
I will be revisiting.

short: great lunch spot across MSG with affordable prices for soups that are made from scratch and delicious little sandwiches that have an old-school vibe
long: Soup Spot is a surprisingly little gem in the neighborhood. I have been a customer since I moved into the neighborhood nearly five years ago. The first time I purchased a soup with corn, I don't remember exactly which one. What I do remember is that when I bit the corn, it burst like a bubble. The only other time I had soup this freshly homemade from scratch was from an Italian guy who squished everything with his hands while preparing the food. I returned a second time to ask if they are Italian because it's just like a real deal Italian made it squishing all the made from scratch food by hand. Bruce stated the chef was trained in fine dining Italian restaurants. I am very picky when it comes to bread, and the bread used at this place is fresh and is so good I eat it by itself. I'm sitting here imagining myself putting a bit of butter on it and having it with coffee. The soup includes a piece of bread, and the sandwiches are made with the same bread. The sandwiches are of the classic variety. The soup menu rotates daily and is listed right above the soup bar at eye level. Many customers are regulars. Bruce gets to know his customers and always a great talk with him. Now that I have some work from home days, I will be getting my lunch from this place regularly and will post many pictures. I highly recommend Soup Spot to anyone: living; visiting; and/or working in the area.

I can count the lentils in this soup that cost $14.00 what a waste. The Mac and cheese is just what it says…..no wonder it tastes like box.
