The Dan Dan noodles & Brussel sprouts were the winners. Evening vibe is really fun too with a dj inside.
Amazing flavors, it is addicting. The dry pepper style and mapo tofu have a slight numbing sensation as it is Sichuan style cuisine. The flavors and spice are absolutely delicious, highly recommended.
Obnoxiously greasy. I almost feel like reporting them to Consumer Reports for the amount of oil they douse in their dishes.
Order here knowing that it is bound to be greasy. One does hope that if they read this review, they would lower the grease factor.
As someone who’s not vegan, I found their dan dan noodles with vegan beef delicious.
Our expectations were high and honestly we didn’t enjoy the food much due to the crazy spice levels.
The szechuan rice was so ridiculously spicy 🥵 I couldn’t even taste any other flavour. The spice in that thing was insane. I ate it bc I didn’t want to waste it but boy was I dyin.
The dan dan noodles were alright but the flavour wasn’t fully there either - something was missing with those too. We had to mix the rice and noodles to bring the spice level down.
Honestly my bad for not inquiring about it, also the waiter didn’t mention anything about spice levels at all but I now understand with the name of the restaurant being literally spicy LOL
Otherwise, the ambience was great and the staff were really really nice. Appreciate the vegan activism in the resto.
Maybe we chose the wrong dishes.. 🤔
I was so sad because I really wanted to enjoy this meal. We had minimal days and we picked and chose the vegan restaurants to visit in the city, and when it’s not up to par, it’s a little disappointing.
After falling in love with dandan noodles in China, I’ve been on a mission to find a solid version in NYC. Spicy Moon kept popping up, so I finally gave in—even though $20 for a bowl of noodles with no veggies or meat felt steep. I really wanted to love them, but unfortunately, these just aren’t dandan noodles.
They weren’t remotely spicy, and more importantly, there were no Sichuan peppercorns—which is kind of the whole point of the dish. The server (who was fantastic, by the way) brought over chili oil, which added heat, but without that numbing peppercorn kick, it still missed the mark. The sesame paste was overpowering—thick and heavy.
If you called this dish “sesame noodles” and added soy sauce and chili oil, it might be fine on its own terms. But as dandan noodles? It was a letdown. Super cute place and great service, but the food was bland and disappointing.
Spicy Moon in West Village is a fantastic spot for anyone who enjoys bold, flavorful Chinese cuisine — especially Sichuan-style dishes. The restaurant is fully vegan, but you wouldn’t miss the meat at all thanks to the rich spices and textures. The atmosphere is casual yet stylish, and service is quick and friendly. I tried a few dishes like the dan dan noodles and mapo tofu, and both were incredibly satisfying with the perfect amount of heat. A great choice for plant-based eaters or anyone looking to explore modern Chinese flavors in NYC.
One of the most underrated restaurants in the city, the food is incredible, vibe is unmatched and everything is made to share so it’s great to visit with friends or family
Very pleasant experience today, server was nice as can be, food was excellent, and the atmosphere was cozy.
We were not fans. This was mediocre takeout food at good restaurant prices

The portions are larger than you think. Definitely a place to share plates. At night it's loud so if you want a quiet place to talk you might want to try elsewhere
The food was okay but very very expensive. Maybe that’s just Manhattan but 16 dollars (ex tip) for some french Fries is wild. The service was great and the vegetables were nice.
I like the salt and pepper tofu (not spicy), double cooked king oyster mushroom, and pretty much everything else I've tried (and forgot the name of)
So many options. The food was so tasty and well priced. #Veganuary
Everything we had was fabulous! And the food came incredibly fast with friendly service. We had the crabless rangoons, stir fry chili glass noodles with beyond beef, kung pao style, lychee hard seltzer, and the seasonal pear chai cocktail.
