One of my favorite places to go when I spend some time in NYC . Great menu choices and service is always friendly, helpful and professional . A nice layout with quiet ambiance .

Disastrous last night in NYC. I came to the State Grill again as I'd dined here when I got married 8 years prior in New York, so it was a happy memory for me, but sadly this was not a good experience. My mother likes her steak well done, no pink, as she reiterated to the server numerous times, and we expressed even if you have to cut it before it comes out to check then that's fine. Well they did cut it and decided it was fine, even though pink. This resulted in me eating alone and my mum just watching me eat. It comes out again, with even more sauce lashed over the top but still not cooked, and when we mentioned it, we were told that the chef said it was the correct temperature. We didn't specify we wanted a certain temperature, we asked for no pink. I then had to request her to have some of her meal so she could eat something whilst I'm eating mine. It came out a third time and although done, they'd literally cut it up into cubes, it was appalling. Our server seemed to stay away from our table, to the point we had to ask for more drinks. It wasn't busy in the restaurant and even my New York strip despite me asking for medium rare, was more medium, but dry towards the end. They comped the drinks (soft as we don't drink) and my mums meal but I won't ever go here again. So disappointing. I know steak isn't "supposed" to be well done but this was the first time in 2 weeks of dining out we'd had this issue. If you don't want to cook a steak well done, that's fine but at least state it on the menu that you can have it medium, rare or bleu and nothing else. Wouldn't recommend.

Great food, we ordered the new york steak and starters calamari, sour dough and shrimp cocktail. For dessert we ordered the NY cheesecake, cookie selection and chocolate which were all good. Our server was welcoming and service was timely.

The tomato soup and sourdough was phenomenal but then the steak and chicken sandwich were super disappointing. Very bland

Food was excellent. We were served by a male waiter who wasn't very pleasant. We were made to feel uncomfortable by his attitude. It was a special meal for my husband's birthday and it wasn't very enjoyable. We had eaten there in 2017 when we last visited NY and that was very special hence why we returned. When we finished our meal the waiter asked me if i would like a dessert and I refused but didn't ask my husband. 2 minutes later the bill arrived which we hadn't asked for. We still had half a bottle of wine to drink. We had to ask for a liqueur coffee but he said they don't have cream, a restaurant that doesn't have cream!!!! His whole attitude was shocking which made us feel like we didn't belong. We will never return.

The food was just so perfectly prepared and our service was exceptional! Was a great place to dine before we toured the Empire State Building. The shrimp cocktail was fantastic! We will return to this restaurant when we are next in town. Thank you!!

3 course meal prepaid. Selection was varied. Steak and salmon were both well prepared and delicious. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our meal.
Really enjoyed our experience. We ate at 5pm because we were going to the observation deck after so the dining room was fairly empty which meant for a quiet intimate meal. The food and service were both great, I would go back when we visit again.

The service was impeccable! The food and drinks were perfect. We were there to celebrate my daughter's birthday and our server brought out a cheesecake with a candle. That was a wonderful addition to our day.
