I had to delete my previous 5 star review of this place. It used to be welcoming with delicious meals, neighborhood favorite. I understand their management and team changed and it is no longer what it used to be.

Great on cold days for fresh varenyka (boiled pirogies) hot borscht with sour cream. Great to sit and tuck into home style cooking. Quieter, clean and Cozy (but you have to enjoy Church Hall vibes).

If you want to enjoy delicious Ukrainian food the most authentic way possible (I would know, I grew up making pierogies in church basements), come eat some holubtsi and kielbasa in a long shared table surrounded by Eastern Catholic iconography. I bring everyone I know here.

The new owner is destroying this beloved East Village institution. The walls are stripped bare. The food is inedible. The soul has left this place. God save this once great Ukrainian Institution!

Located in the basement of the church, a true hole in the wall. Expect it to be crowded on weekends, people eat fast and get out so definitely stick around and wait for a table. Super delicious and authentic food, highly recommend!

Very cute place but the varenyky filling are not very flavorful. Dough is good but overall tastes only ok

Loved this place. They overheard us mentioning a birthday in our group and brought out a cake with a candle, we didn’t even tell them!
Also, food was great. Pierogis, potato pancakes, borscht were all great. Cake was killer.
It’s in a basement so it’s easy to miss. Look for the Cyrillic letters at the top of a set of stairs. Cash only, but well worth it. They were so cool.

Lovely hidden gem my Ukrainian friend showed me. We had potato & meat dumplings with sour cream as a starter, beetroot soup and I took mash potatoes with ribs and some sort of cole slaw. Super delicious although all was very heavy and buttery - nonetheless, great place to get authentic home-made Ukranian food.

Pierogies are different than they used to be and now equal to store bought ones. Was my favorite place to go on the weekend but hopefully they switch back to the old recipe or chef :(
Super dry vareniki meat dumplings. They told me they didn’t have any jam and then served jam to other people right after 🙃. Did not put any onions on my vareniki. Maybe don’t come here if you look like me 🤷♀️

Disappointed by visiting an institution with an obviously inflated rating.
I could not finish the ordered dishes, I noticed that I was not the only one.
I do not recommend

Streecha in Ukrainian Village is an absolute gem! The food is top-notch, truly authentic, and makes you feel like you're right back in Ukraine. What’s even more amazing is that the prices are lower than at most places, yet the quality is unbeatable. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, just like home. The staff is friendly and attentive, making it the perfect spot for a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner. If you're looking for a soulful dining experience with a taste of Ukraine, Streecha is the place to go!
