Usually great service but tonight it was definitely the B-team. From check in to table service it was not great.

I appreciated the good service during my visit, but unfortunately, the sushi did not meet my expectations. The sushi rice was a bit too loose and fell apart easily, which made it challenging to enjoy. Additionally, the rice was served at a temperature that was too hot; I believe sushi is best enjoyed at room temperature to enhance the flavors.

I also found the fish pieces to be cut larger than I prefer, which disrupted the balance of each bite. Having experienced authentic sushi in Japan, I was hoping for a similar quality, but I felt that the price I paid did not reflect the experience I received.

While I understand that many people rave about this place, my experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. I appreciate the effort, but I likely won’t be returning in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts.

Been a frequent customer of Sugarfish mostly in LA didn’t realize they opened up in New York City. Was traveling with a companion and he was a bit under the weather, but I really wanted to go into Sugarfish so we went in. She said she really didn’t want a meal, but she ordered a meal anyway, and we figured we would take it to go for another associate that was still at the hotel. I ate a few bites of my meal. She started to feel worse we asked for a bowl of rice of which we were declined by the server so I asked to speak to the manager as she was feeling really sick. So the manager told us the same thing that they don’t serve rice only only two children. I posted a yelp review and I was called by the manager also I’m a business owner for 40 years customer I guess is never always right. She told me the same thing. It is not a policy of theirs to give you Rice unbelievable will never go back.

Tasty and consistent. Unfortunately, also consistent has been the stray fish bone i’ve been finding in at least one piece of sushi every time in the last 3 visits this year - Dec 2024. Kitchen might need a review.

Vegetarian options: Not for vegans or vegetarians. All fish menu. Unless you want a bowl of edamame and green tea.

Dietary restrictions: Not for vegans. All fish menu.

Wheelchair accessibility: No steps to enter but on the slimmer side, ADA bathroom

I wanted to try this place on my last trip to New York. I show up at the "decent" time of 7pm and ask for a table for two. I am asked to wait for half an hour and I gladly accept, waiting outside the room with a temperature of 4 degrees. After almost an hour the waitress comes out and tells me that she is still looking for a table for me. I say goodbye to them and leave. Broken promises. For me it's NO.

Little pricy for what we are getting. We spend approximately $200.00 For lunch that day for the 2 of us and still left little hungry. The set menu doesn't come with rice or soup. Not a bargain at all, but thy food was fresh. Cannot believe they don't carry avocado in their restaurant nor can order a bowl of rice. Little disappointed.

Good standard sushi. Gold edamame was interesting and tasty.

Not recommended unless you’d like to try omakase at $50, which is cheaper than the usual >$80. Two pieces of toro tuna was appreciated for the price. Otherwise, it all tasted like mediocre fish. We had no problem finding a seat for two at noon on a Monday. Servers were polite but dishes took time to arrive - budget at least an hour.

They had messed up our order. We didn't get served food for a very long time. But once they figured it out the food we got was really good. They even brought us something extra special. Which was very nice of them. Overall I would try it again.

WILL NOT ACCOMMODATE CELIAC AT ALL

Opted for one of the quasi-omakase meals (think it was Don't Think, Just Eat) and had numerous issues due to the restuarant's unwillingness to accommodate my friend's illness.

No GF soy sauce alternatives were available, and dishes with gluten were not "allowed" to be swapped out for safe alternatives.

Overall, the experience was poor, despite some decent quality fish.

Dietary restrictions: SUGARFISH will not accommodate dietary restrictions at all.

My friend has celiac, and we were informed that the restaurant does not carry ANY soy sauce alternatives (such as tamari). It was either dry fish or a spritz of lemon.

As someone who eats out a lot, this has never happened to me before at a sushi restaurant.

Further into the meal, we were also informed that a couple of the items were marinated in soy and we were not allowed to swap out those dishes (which was extremely off-putting and surprising).

Overall, the food was decent, but the experience put a pal over the whole meal.

The great food is the only reason why I return to this location.

The first time I went here for dinner with a friend, the hostess who greeted us accidentally gave away our table by seating the wrong party. After we’d been waiting an unusually long time, we went to the host stand to check what was going on, but the initial hostess was no longer there. Instead, another hostess argued with us, insisting that we were “never on the list.” She repeated this in a short, passive-aggressive tone without making any attempt to check the list or ask for my name to confirm. It was clear she wasn’t interested in listening. I realized the only way we’d be believed and actually get seated was by finding the original hostess. When I finally caught her (she had gone to the back), I explained what I thought was happening, and she immediately responded with, “Oh yeah, that is weird you haven’t been sat since you’ve been waiting a long time; let me check what’s going on.” She quickly recognized the mistake and put us back on the list right away. Eventually, after waiting 2 hours in total, we were seated. The original hostess was very apologetic, which I appreciated, but it was disappointing that the other hostess never offered any apology or acknowledgment, despite being in the wrong. If I didn’t previously enjoy the food and hadn’t had a friend to keep me company, I wouldn’t have stayed.

So far, I have to say that this has been my absolute favorite sushi experience! The food is incredibly delicious—every bite is a delight. Not only is the sushi top-notch, but the service is also fantastic, making you feel welcomed and taken care of throughout your meal. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for enjoying a nice meal with friends or family.

The only little downside I noticed is that they don’t offer draft beer, which would have been a nice touch. But honestly, with how great everything else is—from the flavors to the overall vibe—I hardly even mind! I can’t wait to come back and enjoy another wonderful meal here!

What a wonderful experience, even for sushi ? newbies like me. I'd long and often assumed I did not like sushi. Turns out quality sushi isn't as easy to come by as it seems.

The sashimi is very flavorful. The sushi rice is delicious even on it's own and the crab hand roll really won me over. Definitely a great place to take anyone on the fence about sushi.
