A couple of friends, who live in the vicinity, introduced us to Sushi 456, and it didn't take long for us to understand their enthusiasm for this place. The restaurant excels in numerous aspects. From the moment we walked in, the staff was not only welcoming but also promptly presented us with an appetizer, allowing us to ponder our choices. However, we were set on trying the Omakase. The pacing of the meal was impeccable, with just the right intervals between dishes for engaging conversations, yet we never felt pressured to hurry. The service was efficiently timed throughout our dining experience. Every piece of fish served was outstanding, reminiscent of the prestigious, old-school sushi bars on the west coast that have gained acclaim in NYC. However, what sets Sushi 456 apart is its affordability, which is surprisingly reasonable and inspired us to leave a generous tip. I was particularly impressed by the Toro and the hand rolls. It's been merely five days since our visit, and we're already planning our next trip there. I highly recommend giving it a try; you're sure to be delighted.

15 tasting menu. Fave was eel, scallop, non fatty tuna. Hand roll spicy scallop was delish. Overall good service and experience.

Food met/exceeded expectations. However, service was disappointing. Server appeared rushed and was uninterested in providing a pleasant dining experience. Little time was allowed for looking at the menu and we were urged to quickly order. Food arrived quickly. Plates were taken quickly. Check was brought soon after despite half a bottle of wine remaining. Drinks were still being consumed when server asked us to leave. Entire time spent was less than 60 minutes. If you’re looking for an in and out dining experience, this is your place. If you’re looking for an enjoyable dining experience, your money is better spent elsewhere.

This restaurant took my credit card information to hold my reservation and proceeded to incorrectly charge a cancellation fee even though all the free cancellation qualifications were met. I understood there was a cancellation fee if the reservation was cancelled after the stated time, however I cancelled well before that time, and have sent timestamped email confirmations to the restaurant as proof. I have gotten either a run around or no response. I would not trust this business again or recommend to anyone I know.

So some sort of an Arcadian vision of a sushi bar, or something like that. I mean, this was my first omakase, so I'm assuming that all omakase are like this to some extent, and maybe there are many better than this. I don't know. I wouldn't be the expert on that. But here, I felt like I had a dozen different meals - I even forgot some of them - but each showed off and the hardest question was the chef constantly asking "which one's your favorite so far" my guy I think each one is really incomparably good it's actually hard to answer that. You're just asking me what type of fish I like. And I don't want my prejudices to tell me what I like and don't like. I think this chef can surprise you. Ebi is usually my least favorite. Here, it wasn't necessarily my favorite either, but it was the most memorable one, because although it is just a shrimp, clearly, it's got a very different texture from what I expect from shrimp. Here, you don't make any choices with the dressing or the soy sauce. And that's for you, so that you don't make a mistake of just eyeballing the soy sauce yourself. I ordered the 15 piece omakase because why not, and I'm a barely working adult, I don't pay a hundred bucks for a meal. But this one I actually felt like this might have been worth more and I'd have complied silently. It's not a meal you have to go finish off some dinner while chatting though. I think this is made for like, a sort of a conversation with the food, and the chef. I don't write this pretentiously normally btw. Or maybe I do. Idk.

Me and a friend showed up an hour before they closed. The owner Lin (the gentleman in the photo) served us and I couldn’t say better things. He was fun to talk with and insanely talented in his craft. This is one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We left at closing time and I made sure to capture an image of Lin for this review. He played along despite being busy cleaning. He was incredibly nice the entire time and even had us try different types of sushi after. Definitely an experience that’s different than most dinners. I had the Omakase 10 piece and it was just the right amount. Highly recommend!

I recommend the a la carte sashimi/ngiri. Great quality at a reasonable price.I thought the hand rolls and sushi rolls were okay, still good but not wow. The space is a bit too tight and so too loud.

Smaller pieces but super fresh and a reasonably good deal at $100 for 15 pieces nigiri.

We had the 15-piece omakase, which included;sea bream, spanish mackerel, ocean trout, fatty tuna, kanpachi, sturgeon, golden snapper, bluefin tuna, king salmon, sea shrimp, uni andunagi. We finished with a hand roll which had a nice balance of crunch. For dessert they order matcha ice cream and mochi ice cream. It's BYO as well but they also offer wine by the glass or bottle and sakes and beers.

Sushi 456 is among the top places (as of October 2023) to get a sub $100 omakase in Manhattan. The thing that makes it stand out is its focus on the fish, not the extra frills other sub $100 places can add to zhuzh up what they're serving. Sushi 456 serves up quality pieces of fish with simple sauces that make for a lovely meal. Two options: 10 piece omakase ($70) or a 15 piece ($100)

Really enjoyed the omakase at this former hotpot place which is a pretty good omakase deal, and the ease of getting a table surprisingly on a Saturday night. Fresh, top-of-the-line fish and such a straightforward menu which I love. Not rushing back as it wasn't wildly creative or interesting, but definitely a delicious, reliable, well-priced sushi meal in the best neighborhood
