We had the most wonderful experience for my husband’s birthday. We enjoyed the food and our waiter went out of the way to make our experience extra special which we appreciated so much. Thank you!

We booked a table at Azabu thinking of a high quality genuine Japanese experience. The pictures from previous guests seemed very inviting (we hadn’t noticed they were from years before).

Unfortunately the dinner was very poor due to both quality of ingredients and service.

The wagyu tataki was served in a mix of ingredients, half steamed half grilled. Worst wagyu tataki I have ever had. The Otoro, supposed to be a fatty and very tasty tuna cut, came with zero fat and little taste. All with no introduction or explanation from our waiter. When sharing our comments we were told other guests like it.

We believe (or hope) this restaurant might have been great a few years back in line with the pictures date. However, after having visited Japan many times, we can say this restaurant has little to no Japanese essence left.

We maybe got unlucky or it might be different with an omakase experience. We will never know.

In NYC standard (both price and quality wise), nice semi-high-end sushi place worth giving it a shot.

It’s not a typical omakase place where you sit down at the counter and the chef serves you a piece by piece. The way how they serve the dishes is much more that of typical restaurant but ambience of the pysical space is like good fine-dining spot. They do have sushi menu called Chef’s selection (which is basically what omakase means in Japanese) and it is basically 6 pieces of sushi served in one plate, all in just one serving. What this means is that, compared to typical type of omakase being served a piece by piece, freshness of the sushi is relatively not as good. How big one thinks that “relative difference” is probably differs for everyone. In my personal opinion, it was a marginal sacrifice that I would be willing to take for enjoying good fining-dining NYC restaurant ambience cause still delicious sushi. So I am certainly willing to revisit.

This is not a typical omakase restaurant where you sit at the counter and each piece of sushi is served, but the overall atmosphere, the way the food is served, and the way the food is served have the feel of a typical fine dining restaurant. Because the sushi you order is served all at once in one bowl, it is a bit better than omakase sushi, which is served one by one on the spot, depending on how fast you eat it. To what extent? This is a composition that makes you feel like the freshness of the sushi is lacking. Personally, I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant and the taste of the sushi was enjoyable enough, so I plan to come again.

However, I wonder what it would be like for Korean tourists. Basically, I think that Korean tourists are very unsatisfied with the cost-effectiveness of eating Japanese food in New York. Because Korea is physically close to Japan, I think the understanding and quality of basic Japanese food is good, and the use of seafood is high, so I think you can find good Japanese food in New York at a much cheaper price in Korea. Especially because of the high exchange rate.

I used this restaurant for a company dinner party. The food, service, and atmosphere were exquisite. Towards the end of dinner, Kiyomi came to our table and took care of us with other staff, further enhancing our special time together.

I used to visit the restaurant a lot in the past, but seems the quality of sushi I had today has slipped off. The dining room is super cold that can't sit chatting with friends too long

Phenomenal Japanese cuisine, fresh ingredients, top notch service from Kiyomi, and the ambience is great - smooth jazz on a sunday night. Kyiomi’s service was perfect, she really made the experience memorable. Highly recommend this spot!

Very kind staff but the all of the omakase dishes were flavorless. I’m sure the a la carte menu is great but they need to change ALL of their omakase courses.
